Poughkeepsie — On Saturday, April 7, 2014, Kodi Kadeem Beckles passed away unexpectedly while away at college. He
then entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior. He was 20 years old at the time of his passing. Kodi was born onOctober 17, 1993 to Michael Beckles and Lorraine Marshall in Bronx, NY. Kodi attended schools in the Hyde Park school district including Violet Avenue Elementary School, Haviland Middle School and FDR High School. He transferred to Arlington High School during the eleventh grade and graduated on June 26, 2011. Kodi’s Christian foundation began at John 3:16 Christian Center in Verbank, NY. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Beulah Baptist Church on the same day of his high school graduation. He remained a faithful and active member of Beulah Baptist Church until his passing. He regularly attended Sunday School (Covenant Keepers) and Bible study when on school breaks. Kodi excelled in academics from high school to college. He studied pre-law at Dutchess Community College from 2011 until he transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh in August 2013. He served on the board of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Caribbean Club, in charge of Public Relations. On April 4, 2014, he was inducted into the Alpha Delta Phi Society. He was a fixture in the college library, where he could be found studying into the early hours of the morning. He loved sports and played varsity football at both of his high schools. He loved to play and watch basketball and was an avid Oklahoma Thunder and Kevin Durant fan. He loved watching T.V. shows, Breaking Bad, King of Queens, Law and Order, The Walking Dead and cartoons — his favorite was American Dad. Kodi had a great work ethic. He held part-time positions at Hollister Co. and K‑Mart and was a summer intern at The Dutchess County Court House (2013).His favorite foods were crab legs, fried chicken and oxtails. His special skills included being exceptionally technologically savvy. He was also very adept at assembling things, even without reading instructions. Kodi will be lovingly remembered by his father, Michael and his wife Cheryl Beckles; his mother Lorraine and her husband Daveton Hill; (3) maternal grandparents: Ronald Marshall of Queens, NY; Norris Hamilton of Bronx, NY; Erna Thompson of Lugoff, SC; (2) paternal grandparents: Sidney Beckles of Queens, NY and Ruby Wilson of Bronx, NY ; (3) brothers: Michael Jr. of Chicago, IL, A.J. and Jonathan of Poughkeepsie, NY; a best friend and cousin, Martin of Poughkeepsie, NY; (2) sisters: Sergeant Rhynishka White of Hinesville, GA and Hannah of Irvington, NJ; (14) uncles: Patrick, Horace, Lee, Calvin, Ian, Leary and Dean all of Kingston, Jamaica; Anthony of Brooklyn, NY; Sean
of Hyde Park, NY; Norman Sr. of Lugoff, SC; Dean Sr. of Atlanta, GA and Ferrel Jr. of Queens, NY; (5)

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 16, 2014, 5 – 8 PM and Thursday, April 17, 2014, 9 – 11 AM at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catherine St. Poughkeepsie, N.Y. A Going Home Service will take place Thursday at 11 AM following the Visitation. Entombment will follow in the Community Mausoleum in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
