KINGSTON, Jamaica — A seven member jury of five men and two women has been empanelled in the trial of businessman Patrick Powell arising from the 2011 shooting death of 17-year-old Kingston College student Khajeel Mais. Mais’ mother, Allana Mais was first to take the witness stand and broke down in tears at the start of her testimony. Powell is being tried on two charges of murder and one count of shooting with intent. He is accused of murdering Mais, who was reportedly travelling in a taxi that collided with a BMW X6 motor vehicle. It is alleged that the driver of the BMW got out and fired at the car, hitting the boy.
Powell is also charged with shooting at taxi driver Wayne Wright with intent to cause harm.
