KINGSTON, Jamaica — Businessman, Patrick Powell, who was last month found guilty of failing to hand over his firearm to the police for inspection, was today sentenced to nine months in prison.
Judge Vaugh Smith handed down the sentence in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court in Half Way Tree.
The businessman was found guilty after prosecution led evidence that Powell, who was a licensed firearm holder in July 2011, failed to hand over his weapon to police officer, Superintendent Clive Walker.
The police wanted the weapon for inspection in relation to the July 2011 shooting death of schoolboy Khajeel Mais.
Powell, in his social inquiry report, told probation officer that his gun was stolen from his safe while he was in police custody. http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/latestnews/Patrick_Powell_sentenced_to_9_months_in_prison
