Electorate Unable To Understand The Threat To Democracy As Opposed To Pocketbook Issues

The idea that the party in power in the White House loses power during off-year elections is not something ordained by God. It isn’t something codified in the Constitution; it is a function of what voters do or doesn’t do. Not only did Republicans gain seats after September 11th, 2001, but George Bush won a second term in 2004.
The events of 2001 were serious, and there can be no denying the effects of the losses of precious human life during that tumultuous event. Nevertheless, the events of January 6th, 2021, and the serious nature of Donald Trump and his republican cronies’ attempts to orchestrate and execute a coup’d etat in America must rate right up there with the former.
Yet, we are faced with an American electorate that is poised to return the Republican party to power.
