BUNCH OF THIEVES:

In these Blogs we speak truth to power, while being fair, without compromising truth for expediency.Today we bring to your attention a matter of grave concern again, yes in Jamaica. This matter involves the junior Minister in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing ‚Richard Azan.

Azan:

Information coming to light revealed that Azan, in his position as Member of Parliament for North West Clarendon and as Junior Minister in the ministry aforementioned, abused his authority, contrary to what he is legally empowered, to give permission for a private contractor to build shops on lands inside the refurbished Spaldings Market, without the approval of the local authority that owned the property.

Inside the Spaldings market.adapted:

The PNP Administration, of which Azan is a member, has since circled the wagons around him even as more information comes to light and various groups have demanded that Azan resign. The Administration claims that the issues are not directly related to the duties of Mr Richard Azan, in his capacity as minister of state in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing, but more so relates to him being Member of Parliament for the constituency.

If you are outraged by this cynically insulting attempt at rationalization you are not alone. This however is not an isolated incident. Like the Cuban light-bulb issue, Trafigura, the extra-large cabinet, and a litany of corruption on the part of this administration which has caused un-imaginable harm and rot to our country, they are again demonstrating that they are above the laws. I find it ridiculous that anyone could be calling for the resignation of Azan. At best this is a firing offence, at worst this is a felony punishable with serious prison time.

The (http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20130416/lead/lead2.html) reports that the Portia Simpson Miller led Government is satisfied with the fact that all monies collected from rental of the shops have been turned over to the Parish Council. This goes beyond laughable. Even if some or all monies collected have now in fact been turned over to the Parish Council, does it mean that the crime was not committed? The average man on the street does not get to tell a tribunal, that he returned the totality of whatever graft or theft he committed to the rightful owner and as such he should be immune from prosecution. Jamaica has had corrupt Administration since Independence, make no mistake about it. This one however is the most bold-faced corrupt and morally reprehensible. This puts to rest the feminist arguments about the fidelity and honesty of female leaders, that is if you ever saw Portia Simpson Miller as a leader in the first place

The PNP administration in Jamaica which is above the Country’s laws:

In the United States, Illinois Governor Rob Blagojevich is doing serious time in the Federal Prison system for attempting to sell the Senate Seat formerly held by President Barack Obama, there are Congress-men and a long list of public Officials from all levels of the food-chain, in prison who took it onto themselves to place themselves above the laws. In Jamaica the only people subject to the laws are the poorest of the poor(the dutty fut bway pon di cana)and Police officers. Even when the evidence of wrong-doing is glaring, as in this case, members of this administration are allowed to simply give back what they have stolen and walk away without consequence. Jamaica is effectively a kleptocracy, these morally bankrupt politicians should be ashamed to show their faces outside the country. If history is precedent they will continue unashamed as if nothing happened. In essence nothing has happened outside the norm, thievery and graft is the norm for them.

We call on Portia Simpson ‚Miller to fire Richard Azan and let the Police do their sworn duty to the public by charging him with the appropriate crime/s prescribed by law. Failing which the entire Government should resign in disgrace as it has lost all moral legitimacy to govern. Mrs Miller, the country does not belong to you or the People’s National party, contrary to PNP opinion. Neither does it belong to Holness and the Jamaica Labor Party. Jamaica belongs to the Jamaican people, to whom you are subject and answerable. I am aware you would like to be Queen, but you aren’t. Do the honorable thing and acquiesce to the wishes of the people or step aside in the name of decency.

The following is a statement given by Richard Azan regarding this matterThe matter of the construction of temporary shops at the newly expanded Spalding Market has become the subject of public scrutiny and comment .I accept and welcome such scrutiny and debate as fundamental tenets of the system of democratic governance in which I am a Parliamentary representative of the people of North West Clarendon. The matter is being investigated by the Contractor General. I am fully respectful of that process and am cooperating fully with the investigation. I will therefore make no further public comment at this time except to say I had no intention to act in a corrupt manner and at no time did I derive any personal benefit. I remain committed to the sacrifice of public service to Jamaica and the people of North West Clarendon. - Richard Azan:

IMF DEAL IS COTTON CANDY TOHUNGRY NATION:

images (7)

News coming out of Jamaica indicates an (IMF) International Monetary Fund deal could be coming as early as the end of this month.

To the Governing Administration this is good news, it potentially means that the Government will be able to pay its bills from monetary draw-downs of cash, made available by the fund.

Public sector workers will be guaranteed their salaries, the country will be able to pay for oil and take care of other monetary obligations. This all sound great, of course it sounds great, when you are coming from zero, the number one is a big improvement. What’s scary is that Administration officials and a large part of the population sees money from the IMF as a good thing, in fact the Administration is celebrating being able to secure this loan as a kind of achievement for the Government.

The Government sets the bar of success that low.

I caution my country-men however, to avail themselves to the catastrophic consequences of getting high on borrowed supplies. To do that we need to examine how we got to a place where merely securing a loan is celebrated as a major political accomplishment.

♦We , meaning Jamaica, borrowed a lot, from any and everyone who would loan us money.

♦ We, meaning politicians, wasted and stole those monies.

♦ We , meaning both political parties, kept borrowing more, to fill budgetary shortfalls from declining income and the crash of entire economic sectors.

♦ The more we, meaning Jamaica, borrowed the more interest those loans accrued, which required us to borrow more, because we had larger budget gaps to fill , coupled with declining income.

♦ This set us, meaning Jamaica, on a dangerous course of borrowing more, which means we are required to pay even more of the country’s earnings, servicing those interest payments.

♦ The result is that the country has less and less with each loan it secures, because the interest payments on those loans becomes more and more, leaving the Government with less and less money to actually run the country.

♦ While the country is doing this, be reminded that those principal loans are still intact , because we are merely servicing the interest payments, It is a dangerous game of Russian roulette, which is an existential threat to Jamaica’s national security and sovereignty.

♦ The Administration is happy to get the money , why not? It needs new bullet-proof high-end sports utility vehicles for its members to ride around in, at tax-payers expense and money to give to political operatives to secure votes, what’s not to love?

The problem with this cotton-candy approach to a hungry stomach, is that the ultimate consequence to our country is economic collapse and economic slavery of generations of Jamaicans yet unborn. Those loans are outstanding , they will have to be repaid, we are literally mortgaging our children’s future to those lenders. Already all of our national treasures have been sold to the Chinese, the Spaniards and God knows who else.

Jamaicans are literally becoming foreigners in their own country, our country is no better than a tin-pan dictatorship, run by a warlord. In fact our country has long been carved up into geographical enclaves ruled by local chieftains (dons) from different political parties and more recently, criminal gangs.

While this volcanic brew is smoldering, the new bourgeois’ (the never si cum si ) who live above Cross Roads continue to delude themselves, basking in what they perceive as the grandeur of the present situation, and their sense of importance in it all. Their influence and importance shape policy, they own the present state of affairs, most if not all of them has dual citizenship, or possesses American or Canadian Visas. What about the rest of the people? The very strategies they berate and demonize are the strategies which are employed in the countries which are safe havens for them ‚when things gets hot in Jamaica.

Americans , Canadians, and the Brits, simply do not allow criminals or criminal-supporting lobby, to tell them how to secure their countries. America the poster-child of democracy, is not shy about administering the death penalty to certain class of felons, after they have exhausted their appeals, in many states.

Does the death penalty guarantee that people will stop committing crimes ? Absolutely not. That was never the idea. What it does guarantee is, that one felon put to death will never be able to kill anyone else. And so it goes to others not deterred by capital punishment, when they kill society puts them to death, until others are deterred or society runs out of murderers, whichever comes first.

PORTIA & PNP ADMINISTRATION OUT OF IDEAS:

Portia-Simpson_2159401b

Our mission of uplifting the Jamaican people and working toward economic independence was challenged during the past year by the slippage of the Jamaican dollar. The Net International Reserves also dipped, but not our reserve of courage, determination and resilience in the face of the international economic environment and domestic challenges. Yet, our confidence in the Jamaican people has never been stronger.

Our ancestors did not fight so gallantly; did not shed their blood for us to now capitulate to gloom and doom. No. We know, as Jimmy Cliff assured us, that we can get it if we really want. All we have to do is to try, try and try, and we will succeed at last.”

PM Simpson Miller:

No those were not my words, they were uttered by Jamaica’s illustrious Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller pictured above. In fact those words were uttered by Miller but must have been written by a speech writer who clearly doesn’t yet understand the way each line and every word would be analyzed and construed.

I’m not here to critique the Prime Minister’s speech , I am simply here to draw attention to the fact that Jamaica is in dire straits, and to shine a light to those wishing to see that the Country’s leaders have no clue.

She did not have the honesty or the gravitas to accept responsibility for the destruction of the Dollar.

It’s interesting that the Prime Minister has nothing she could point to as progress made since they won the elections on December 29th 2011. In fact after the PNP took office they had not tabled much less passed a single piece of legislation within the first 100 days of attaining office.

This is testament to what I concluded then that this party was tired, out of ideas, and had no clue that the people would thrust them back into governance after such a short respite. Remember that prior to the history making JLP single term, the PNP had been in office for an unbroken 1812 years, during which time everything we knew and loved about Jamaica had changed for the worse.

It comes as no surprise then that the Prime Minister would characterize the serious economic crisis facing the country as , Quote”

Our mission of uplifting the Jamaican people and working toward economic independence was challenged during the past year by the slippage of the Jamaican dollar. The Net International Reserves also dipped”

This statement has to be the understatement of the decade, it goes to the heart of why Jamaica’s precipitous position will not change under this administration. As I have said before you cannot fix something you do not understand!

So while the Prime Minister downplays the seriousness of the country’s economic situation crime continues to escalate, less Jamaicans are returning to the land of their birth to visit , much less to resettle. Even Police Officers are being slaughtered and the Police Department long laid bare by nepotism , politics and corruption, is reduced to uttering threats to criminals. The irony is that criminals do not make idle threats, they actually carry out their intentions with cold efficiency, irrespective of the victim, police of otherwise.

Over the last few days a Detective Sargent was slaughtered as he arrived home, a few weeks ago a retired Deputy Superintendent Denzil Boyd was slaughtered , you guessed it.… as he arrived home. Before that Retired Superintendent Anthony Hewitt was murdered in broad daylight, also to lose his life was Senior Superintendent Dathan Henry, a friend of mine, word on the street is that he was murdered, poison being the method used.

To date neither of these murders have been solved, the Jamaica Constabulary Force zero of 4. The year was 1991, after serving 10 years in the JCF I decided to call it a day, I was 30 years old , I figured I would not stay and be an old bitter corrupt cop. I had successfully sat and passed the Acting Corporal exam the first time around at 2 years service. Not promoted !

tony hewitt

Hewitt:

At 4 years service I was allowed to sit the Corporal exam, aced it . Not promoted.

Sent on CIB course. Aced it, highest score in the written exams, second highest score in weapons and tactical shooting, wrote and deviled the Valedictory address, wrote the vote of thanks for the woman cop who delivered it.

Then came the accelerated exam program, I was one of seventy-five who passed, of the 400 plus who qualified to sit the exams, did the interview, the Superintendent did not recommend me because he couldn’t push me around. This despite 13 commendations on my record in less than a decade of service and no instance of impropriety of any kind. Not to mention accolades from highly placed members of the society who crossed path with me and wanted the Commissioner to know. I still have a at least one hanging on my home office wall from the former chairman of the Police Services Commssion Noël Hylton.

It wasn’t until after I had bought a ticket and decided that I was leaving the Force and the Country that I was summoned to 103 Old Hope Road to meet with Deputy Commissioner Harper to discuss my future, much to my dismay. No one ever thought that it was necessary to promote a hard-working cop who had name recognition, clean record, and credibility with the people he served. It was only after I was ready to walk out the door they were ready to promise me promotion and opportunity to lead some new squad or another that was more intelligence based, that would focus on illegal trading in foreign currency on the country’s west coast.

Boyd:

I politely declined, true to his word, DCP Harper saw that I was promoted the same week. I learned of that promotion from New York. There was no mention of my qualification for the accelerated program, which superseded most of what they had, many of whom were lackeys, boot-lickers, yes-men , who could not catch a criminal if he was in their bed. You know the type, the force is full of them now as senior officers.

Dathan (duffy( Henry

My story is the story of a lot of talented and dedicated men and women who simply walked away, after all the JCF of today is what’s left, it’s not much, they cannot investigate, they are still mired in cliques, friends, politics, ass-kissers, boot-lickers , and yard boys, I refused to be any of those.

I am not in any way impugning the character of all members of the Force, those who are labeled ‚pretty well know themselves, they didn’t have any use for me when I served , they were scared, because I didn’t take or put up with any s***.

Simpson:

The killers of these men are, actually still walking around without any fear of apprehension, they know the Police Force is inept, corrupt, and incapable of fulfilling their empty promise to bring them to justice, or to bring justice to them, my preference in cases like these. In other localities Killers of law enforcement officers are treated with the utmost dispatch and alacrity, they will not rest until cop-killers are caught or killed, in Jamaica it’s business as usual. Law enforcement is rendered impotent, by politics and criminal supporting groups like Jamaicans for Justice, which openly supports and lends comfort to mass killers and cop killers.

In 1991 the JCF was clearing up about 70% of the crimes reported to it, today that number is down to 7 % , and the conviction rate is around 1 – 3% . For those who wonder why there are so many killings, look no further than within these numbers. Criminals commit crimes when the chance of getting caught is low. In Jamaica it’s next to zero.

If you ever thought politics do not seriously impact your life ‚take a look at Jamaica and see what a people’s addictive infatuation with promises , giveaways, cheap populism, a faux nationalism does to a country.

Latinos Vastly Improved Impression Of Congress Premature:

Latino immigrants march for rights and recognition.

The 2012 Presidential Elections was a serious reality check for conscientious Republicans.…isn’t that an Oxymoron? Ok all kidding aside, they got beat in every category except white male.

African-Americans, Latinos, Asians, Women, Lesbians and Gays, Unionized workers, .….….…intelligent people, ok I did say all jokes aside, but sometimes I have to wonder if there are any sane people in the Republican Party?

I am stunned that a Party could consciously place itself on the wrong side history ‚on issue after issue, after issue.

I am sometimes tempted to go on and on about Republicans, but why bother? There are far more important things happening on our planet which warrants our attention than a party still stuck in the age of Dinosaurs.

Last General Elections President Obama snagged 71% of the Latino vote compared to Mitt Romney’s 27%. In the preceding 4 years since Obama has been President, he had hired Latinos to Cabinet positions, signed an Executive Order giving dreamers(mostly Latinos) a breather from deportation, and probably most importantly he appointed the very first Latino to the United Sates Supreme Court, Sonya Sotomeyer.

.

Former Labor Secretary Hilda Solis:Ass. Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomeyer:

I’m not about to critique anyone on the basis of race, but I do wonder at the recent polling numbers which saw Latinos giving Congress a huge thumbs up. The congressional approval rating stands at an impressive 56 percent among Hispanics, however, up by 21 percent since November 2011, when just 35 percent gave a thumbs-up to Congress.

I have one simple comment to make to my Hispanic friends. You do realize that there are Republicans in the Congress right? Even as the congress look at Immigration reform, Republicans are dug in on what they call Amnesty. They are opposed to any pathway to citizenship for the millions of people here living in the shadows, Never mind that this would be a financial plus for the economy. Whatever Republicans do on the issue of immigration must be viewed as self serving, as they are masters and controllers of their own demise if they fail to get on board.

Even as the fate of the Republican Party is inextricably linked to them gaining traction with Latinos, the fastest growing minority group in the country, they continue to hold fast to their mantra of law and order. Everyone agrees this is a country of laws, and as such those who violated the country’s laws should be held accountable. but we must never lose sight of the fact that we are all citizens of this world, we all came here at one time or another, and if we didn’t , our four-parents did.

Arizona Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpio:

Republicans have one policy, it is the policy they have for everything, and everyone, except rich white males. “Punitive “, on every issue they adopt a punitive approach, an approach designed to punish and exact revenge.

It is against that background that I wonder if Latinos have considered that the very people who want them imprisoned or kicked out of the country are still in the congress as they give the congress this exuberant approval rating.

My Latino friends may want to wait just a little while longer before they bring out the mariachi bands, There is still no Immigration Bill signed by the President, and the same Racist old Republican White men are still in control of the House of Representatives.

The memory and language of people like Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpio of Maricopa County should be a stark reminder to Latinos that the battle is far from over. So I suggest they hold off on the thumbs up to congress.

When You’r In A Hole Stop Digging.

February 11th.2013 010

Yesterday we reported and commented on a 50% drop in the number of Jamaicans returning home to retire over the last 10 years.

I have warned over the years, in every medium which allowed me a voice, to include the Jamaican Daily papers and more recently my own blogs, that this drop would occur. As I recognized then, we did not have Alumina as a significant earner of foreign exchange, we had lost most of the markets we had for agricultural products like bananas. In essence Jamaicans had conversely bought into the false narrative that American foods were better than locally grown produce. Traditional and would be farmers gave up on agriculture as a means of making a living. There is no single reason Jamaica is in the pickle it’s in now, there is a cornucopia of reasons, take your pick. When we sum up in precise form why our country is broke, crime comes to the fore. Jamaica lost agriculture because farmers could not produce quality foods, with consistency and at the price that the Americans could, Consequently American foods flooded the Jamaican market.

Let me be clear, when I say “Jamaican farmers could not produce the quality foods” I mean agriculture foods, particularly harvested fruits and vegetables must be cleaned and refrigerated as soon as possible, if their pristine quality is to be maintained. We simply cannot harvest vegetables in 90 degree weather, put them in the back of an non-refrigerated truck to their destinations and simply hope we will be supplying top quality vegetables. For financial and other reasons, Jamaicans farmers are unable to meet the exacting standards of today’s food industry. Hotels simply have to source foods with consistency and which are of the best quality.

Having spent a decade in law enforcement I am no stranger to the sordid and complex underbelly of Jamaica’s crime monster. I am also acutely aware that the country’s criminals have grown exponentially more advanced since I exited that discipline. One of the most frightening thing about Jamaica’s crime epidemic is the extent to which it extends within the Jamaican culture. I was not in the least surprised that transparency International, an international ratings agency, rated Jamaica 84% corrupt. My only problem with that assessment is that I truly believe that the truth lies somewhere in the 90% range.

The fact is that criminality is a way of life in Jamaica, Politicians, Police, Doctors, Lawyers ‚Clergy, Business-people, Judges, there is no group of people who are guiltless of the corrosive scourge of dishonesty, or criminal complicity. Many Jamaicans see honest as a vice, one could easily lose his life trying to do the right thing in the Jamaica of today. Even those perched atop the highest rungs of the societal ladder are stained with the pungent stench of corruption and graft.

It should come as no surprise then, that today the Jamaica Constabulary claimed that they were aware that there is a scam underway which is bilking Insurance companies of billions of dollars.(Jamaicagleaner.com). This is nothing new but the police’s only duty now a days seem to be that they too have heard of the crimes being committed, they seem little more than a Security Guard Organization and a very bad one at that. This scam allegedly involves Lawyers, Doctors, and members of the public, no doubt there are police officers involved as well.

CORRUPTION ENDEMIC IN JAMAICA:

Whatever happened to the Finsac Enquiry?

Whatever happened to Trafigura? Dutch authorities wanted to question PNP President Portia Simpson Miller, party chairman Robert Pickergill and senior members Phillip Paulwell and Colin Campbell about a $31 million donation to the party by Trafigura Beheer. It is illegal for Dutch companies to donate to political parties. At the time of the donation in 2006, Trafigura had an oil-lifting contract with the PNP Administration which had formed the government. In court documents, the PNP is contending that the order for its officials to answer questions in relation to the Trafigura probe by Dutch authorities is a breach of their constitutional rights. Jamaican Government of the PNP took campaign funds from a Dutch Company doing business with the Government. jamaicagleaner.com

Whatever happened to the Cuban Light Bulb case involving Kern Spencer?Whatever happened to the dozens and dozens of cases of corruption on the part of the Government of Jamaica involving both political parties?

Kern Spencer Colleen Wright

While a state minister in the energy ministry in the previous government led by the PNP, Spencer was placed in charge of an energy-saving project. The project involved the distribution of four million free Cuban light bulbs island wide. The project was implemented in July 2006.[3] Allegations of irregularities in the project were leveled against Spencer in Parliament in November 2007 by then Energy Minister Clive Mullings, who asked the auditor-general and the contractor-general to probe the matter [3] Clive Mullings, told Parliament that $114 million was improperly spent on the distribution of four million energy-saving light bulbs donated by the Cuban Government to the people of Jamaica.[4] In January 2008, the auditor-general reported that about 176,380 of the four million bulbs, costing approximately $92 million, could not be accounted for. There was also an absence of an effective system of budgetary control resulting in the making of payments and the incurring of unpaid obligations of $185.3 million over the approved financial support. On 26 February 2008 Kern Spencer was arrested and slapped with seven charges. He is facing three charges of conspiracy to defraud, one charge for breaching the Prevention of Corruption Act, and three charges for breaching the Money Laundering Act.[3]Spencer spent the night in jail and remained behind bars until he was able to post bail on 29 February 2008.[8]wikepedia

These are some of the most egregious cases of corruption graft and dishonesty in recent memory in Jamaica, all of which should have landed people in prison for very lengthy periods of time. To date not a single person has been even tried in a court of law, much less convicted for these crimes.

In Jamaica like many other nations the poor bears the brunt of the clutches of the law, hardly is there a country which one may argue with any degree of legitimacy that the laws are applied fairly across the board , irrespective of offender. Jamaica however seem to go overboard to show that the political class and those with money are above the laws.

The Criminal Justice System would be a joke, were it not so important to the lives of so many. The likely hood of the poorest and least influential person who commits a crime getting caught or getting convicted is between 5 – 7%. That means between 93 – 95% persons who have committed murder will never have to fear getting caught. This metric is based on a one person per murder assumption.

The fact that there is such a huge unlikely hood that a felon will never be made to pay for his crimes , they are more likely to be serial felons, to include those who murder. With all of that said, the chances of a politician getting charged criminally, convicted. or imprisoned is pretty much Zero!!

To the best of my recollection the only Politician ever to see what the inside a Prison look like was J.A.G. Smith former labor minister under the Seaga Administration of the 1980“s, for allegedly stealing monies from poor farm workers accounts.

The Kern Spencer trial has been to my mind one of the most galling and (bare-faced) acts of criminality to go unpunished. When the matter came to light I stated emphatically that this case would go on and on then disposed of in the usual way, witnesses can’t be found, file missing, witnesses cannot recall what they had said in their depositions, or any bull-shit of that nature.

There is beginning to be a general consensus among even people who were staunch supporters, that the Country’s chief prosecutor the Director Of Public Prosecution is incompetent, in over her head, or worse, I was one of her supporters who now question her competency. Despite being largely ineffectual,to her credit Paula Llewellyn did bring charges against Kern Spencer, it would appear that all the Jamaican people looking for justice will get was the night he spent in jail February 28th 2008.

From the onset the Magistrate presiding over the case seemed overly aggressive toward the prosecution, this is not unusual as the Jamaican Courts are heavily slanted toward the defendant. This Magistrate however seem overly hostile toward the people’s case. I figured then and there then that like all of the other politicians accused of criminal malfeasance this case would go the route of all of the other calls for justice.

The Magistrate made it obvious that Spencer would not need a defense lawyer, she would champion his defense, to date, the case is in limbo, those looking for a just resolution should move on and not hold their breaths.

Jamaica is a small country, which for years have borrowed more money that it is capable of repaying, as such more than 50% of the country’s resources go to servicing interest on it’s debt, as catastrophic and ultimately cataclysmic as this course is , the country’s leaders continue to seek out every possible lender, trying to borrow more money.

There’s no indication as to what that money has been used for. The country’s infrastructure, where it exist, are antiquated and dilapidated . Where the government has built any structure those structures represent the needs of today at best, with no thought for population growth. At this rate the country will continue to be a third world country long after carribean neighbors, Trinidad, and Barbados have reached first world status.

The Country’s laws are no better, where new legislation commensurate with the sophisticated realities of the countrys criminal practitioners, they are usually vague and poorly constructed. Which usually result in guilty criminals walking free due to crafty high priced (vultures),.….….….….….… I mean attorneys.

The attitude of the present Government has demonstrably been one of survival. Survival so it may continue to hold state power, but more so dodging and moving from crisis to crisis, through debt adjustments and other short term fixes. They have asked public sector workers to sacrifice by not asking for, or expecting wage increases, even as the value of the Dollar depreciates to almost J$100 to US$1 presently.

What this means is that, not only will Government workers not receive a wage increase, the value of what they were receiving previously will continually be whittled away. At the same time the Government engages in the purchase of high end luxury Sport Utility Vehicles for politicians comfort at the expense of taxpayers.

The country continues to grapple with astronomically high crime, comparable to only five other countries in the world. The Police Department reports, it only has about 50% of the tools it needs to do the job it is tasked with doing.

There seem to be no plan on the part of the existing government to change direction from the inevitable collision course it’s on with destiny. Whether that course adjustment will come through more austerity, self reliance, reducing corruption and crime, thus attracting investment and members of the diaspora returning home is anyone’s guess. From my vantage point it seem that the plan is the same , stay as long as possible steal as much as possible, to hell with country.

Jamaica now depend on the United States to punish its criminals, as has been the case in the Christopher Coke and other criminal cases.

Both of Jamaica’s political parties simply refuses to extricate themselves from the tentacles of corruption and criminal allegiance. The people deserve better, yet there is no moral leadership, so it’s every man for himself.

Hill: Rainford:

Today we learned that Carlos Hill, who is on $15-million bail, and is charged with fraudulently inducing, stemming from allegations that he coerced persons to invest in his billion-dollar alternative investment scheme, had his 15 million dollar bail posted by the then Permanent Sectetary in the Ministry of Local Government Robert Rainford, under the former JLP government.

At the time of his alleged crimes Kern Spencer of the PNP was the Parliamentary Secretary in the National Security Ministry

Hill operated the scheme for five years before its collapse in 2008. If convicted, Hill could be sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. Even if Hill is acquitted in the Home Circuit Court, he would still not be out of the woods. Hill, his brother Bertram and former Cash Plus executive, Peter Wilson, are also facing prosecution in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court in relation to the scheme. They are to be tried in the Resident Magistrate’s court on charges of obtaining money by false pretense, conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent conversion.(jamaicaobserver)

We understand that when contacted abroad Rainford hung up the phone on members of the media who wanted to ask him questions about his association with Hill a convicted felon in the United States, who was under indictment in Jamaica.

There are really no boundaries in Jamaica, no one seem to have a moral compass even when the instances of conflict of interest and corruption are the most glaring. Jamaica the once pristine pearl of the Caribbean has been reduced to a den of thieves, and a cesspool of corruption and graft.

BLOOMBERG’S ARROGANCE !

Bloomberg
Bloomberg

The idea that Government may tell people what they may drink is a frightening prospect right?

Well frightening though it is, or ought to be, many of us allow Government to step in and regulate what we eat in the name of preserving our health. I am neither a Doctor, Scientist,or even a policy maker , what I am a however, is a citizen of planet earth who cherishes his freedom and that of others.

New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg has taken it onto himself to determine that 32 ounce sugary drinks ought to be banned from New York City. As such, businesses doing business in Bloomberg’s Fiefdom has been scampering to order smaller sized cups, so as not to breach his Majesty’s decree, which should be in full effect by June of this year.

Of course this was before an Appeals Court Judge overturned (HRH) Michael Bloomberg’s decree, thank God for checks and balances. A couple of days ago after learning that the Court had done the right thing and stood up to what seem now to be a more aggressive and pompous Mayor Bloomberg, I tweeted that it was a great day for Democracy.

A dear friend of mine disagreed with me and made a very articulate argument on behalf of government over-reach. Quote:

[ Sometimes a state’s intervention to stem what can become a potentially serious health issue ‚do make sense …the rationale : people who are addicted don’t think about their health issue which is related to their illness , only their personal fulfillment . In the long run it will affect everyone who is paying taxes . An health system that’s over whelmed will require tax dollars to sustain it , your hard earned dollars man . Democracy is not an isolated concept it involves making and taking tough decision by leaders on behalf of it populace . that’s the pragmatic way of looking at this issue. .…. pure democracy is a utopian concept.]

Bravo, Bravo , Mac, as a budding up and coming Lawyer , you make a dispassionate case for Mayor Bloomberg and every other Political leader who feel that they know best whats right for individuals, who they cynically deem, too stupid to decide for themselves.

But please do tell.. Where in the recorded history of mankind has Politicians ever been judicious and/or restrained when given overwhelming power over it’s people? I’ll await your research on that my friend mister Mac, but in the meantime here’s what I think.

Remember when they demonized smoking then banned it from restaurants and every eatery, and all public buildings and places where people congregate, Then they banned it in Parks?.….….….….….……Yes, outside.
No one found it problematic because they were fighting the big bad tobacco right? This was after they had done decades of demonizing of tobacco, it wasn’t hard, after that kind of demagoguery for the Government to line up enough public support to drastically tell us where we could or even if we may smoke.

Don’t get me wrong, I have no love for smoking but the issue is much larger than smoking, it is one of liberty and freedom.
It is a slippery slope when we allow Government to dictate to us in that way, one day we wake up and all your freedoms are gone.
Humans are quite capable of deciding for themselves what they drink or if they drink it is not up to the Government to decide, this is not even a legal issue, every well thinking person should be outraged at the temerity of Bloomberg, but not so, we have come to believe that Government knows best what’s right for us.

I stopped smoking because of the educational campaign certain NGO’s and yes the government waged, teaching about the health risks associated with smoking, not because some politician mandated that I must stop. There are certain fundamental rights that must never be abdicated or turned over to government. Those rights are not for Government to dole out to us, they are inalienable rights given to us by our creator.

Those Rights must never be subject to the whims of politicians.Every time Politicians want to take our rights they argue that it is for the greater good. As such it is difficult for people who believe fundamentally in the rights of the individual to self determination, to win the debate.

My response to my friend: Quote:

[Then you are even more gullible than I thought my brother. Pray do tell me ‚where any Government in the history of mankind, when given the power over it’s people have EVER used that power judiciously, sparingly, or for the best interest of the people? The people are the best individual controller of their own destiny,it is not up to government to determine what we eat drink wear, where we worship, or if we worship. Those are inalienable rights granted by our creator.NOT government. The argument you put forward in defense of Government’s intrusions and over-reach into our lives are the very arguments governments use to con vulnerable and gullible taxpayers. You have essentially bought into the concept my dear friend that we as human beings are too stupid to know what to eat or drink, so it’s better if government make those decisions for us. I guarantee you do not feel that strongly about that perspective you advanced now big Mac.]

My contention is not one against Government, it is one of pro individual rights and freedoms, I dare anyone to prove to me , that giving more power to Government anywhere, has ever worked out for the good of the people. It doesn’t, it produces tyrants who abuse people. Bloomberg is not there yet thanks to the checks and balances within the system, but wherever politicians dare to show such temerity we should all be wary as to their motives.

Government Legislated Prohibition into law, look how well that turned out, say hello to the Mafia. Government Legislated the War on drugs into effect , look how well that turned out, say hello to massive destruction of lives by Cartels, the incarceration of Millions of non-violent offenders and the destruction of lives as a result of over-zealous cops . And by the way illicit drugs is still here with us more than ever, the message from that is, can we please try education and treatment , and lay off the testosterone- laced bravado for a minute?

Bloomberg and his acolytes argue that they did not mandate that people could not order a second drink, they merely wanted people to think after having say a 20 oz, whether to order another. Sounds reasonable doesn’t it ?

The problem with that nonsense is that for someone predisposed to drinking a 32 oz container of a sugary drink, there is not one shred of evidence that that person wont actually order a second drink, the only change which will occur is that that person will be forced to fork out more money to satisfy his/her thirst, and the Staten Island land-fill will have to contend with more non-bio degradable thrash, thanks to His Highness King Bloomberg.

As I’ said before Government should extricate itself from over-reaching into the individual rights of people, stop telling people you can’t do this you can’t do that, particularly when it comes to their bodies. Education is a valuable tool for convincing people about obesity, as it has done with cigarette smoking, as it has done with drunk driving, as it will do for illicit drug use, and possibly obesity

Bullying and banning will make criminals out of legitimate business owners, it may fill Jails with a new breed of criminals, it certainly will not stop obesity, maybe Bloomberg really doesn’t care about obesity, maybe what he really wants are jails filled with a new breed of criminals.

Maybe there ought to be a ban on people having too much money, I respectfully argue it will go a long way in reducing arrogance, what do you say Mayor Bloomberg,? Remember it was your money and influence which allowed you to convince the City Council to change the rules so you may serve 3 terms in office instead of the 2 term legal limit.

SCALIA UNMASKED:

Despite the outrageous and reckless statements Antonin Scalia made from the bench at the Supreme Court yesterday equating the right of minorities to vote in America with racial entitlements, not a single Republican has come out in condemnation of his statements.

Antonin Scalia
Antonin Scalia

Those Americans, and in particular African-Americans who thought that somehow this country had entered some semblance of post racial period with the election of Barack Obama to the presidency ‚need to think again Conversely ‚Obama’s elevation has awakened what I am convinced always existed here, a dark under-belly of sinister evil, even in the highest places of power. We as humans and in particular African-Americans must be on watch and in prayer for this president and his family, there are inherent evil arrayed against him which has nothing to do with his policies.

Whether you believe that Shelby County Alabama has a case in asking the Supreme Court to remove it from Section 5 of the law which makes it mandatory for the States named in the law (egregious previous offenders against the rights of minorities to vote) to get permission from the Federal Government before making changes to their voting laws is one issue.

The argument of Shelby Count’s lawyers and seemingly the opinion of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts, that there are other States which are bigger offenders of the law and as such they ought to removed is insulting.

If the Presidential Elections of 2012 is an appropriate harbinger of what will happen to African-Americans in America then it is indeed a serious time for introspection reflection and indeed some panic. State Rights to the right-wing in America means the ability to manipulate the laws using archaic and illegal methods to prevent black people from voting. It means lynchings with no one held accountable, it means abuse at the hands of the very people tasked with protecting us. State Rights means relegating black people to the back of the bus, it means dogs and water hoses , it means Federal Troops in order for our children to enter schools our taxes built and maintains. That is why they are against the Federal Government, when they talk about giving States rights that is what they crave. Antonin Scalia’s ignorant and poignant comments from the Bench, equating the free and fair right of African Americans to vote as “Racial Entitlements brings to mind an important fact .Antonin Scalia was appointed to the Supreme Court with a 98 ‑0 vote, the last time the Federal Voting Rights Act was re-authorized Senators voted 98 – 0 .

Using Scalia’s own metric, it seem the time has come for his appointment to be revisited, he is tenured, that appointment is for life. Senators should get to work doing the necessary Legislative work in an effort to ensure that kind of ignorance is removed from such a loft perch.

A DAMN SHAME.

Today February 27th President Obama, America’s 44th President unveiled a statue of the mother of the Civil Rights struggle Rosa Parks in Washington DC.

Mrs Rosa Parks

As the President unveiled the statute of the slightly built woman on whose shoulders he now stands, The United States Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments in Shelby County Vs Holder, Holder being the United States Attorney General, who also stands on her shoulders.

At the center of the case before the Supreme Court, is the contention by Shelby County in the Southern State of Alabama that the law is no longer relevant. They are particularly opposed to section 5 of the Voting Rights Act which forces certain States that have been blatant offenders to get Federal permission before they change their voting laws.

Shelby County Alabama, as it contends that it should be removed from section 5 of the law, was viscerally engaged in preventing the sole African-American elected official in that very locale a fair shot at getting elected. That attempt was thwarted by the courts and the official was overwhelmingly elected.

How a lawyer could straight faced make the case for removal in light of those facts is stunning. How a Supreme Court could entertain arguments in this case in light of the facts is indeed stunning.

There are indications that the right leaning Supreme Court, may actually accede to the request of Shelby County Alabama, to strike down, or at least seriously weaken the law. Clarence Thomas an associate justice on that Body, whose very presence there is as a result of the sacrifices and pain of the civil rights struggle, has been a disaster for the black community in America.

Thomas is the quintessential house negro who loathes himself and as result has turned his back on everything which made him who he is and what he has been able to achieve. Thomas as voted lock step with the other right-wing reactionary Associate Justice Antonin Scalia , who yesterday argues that the law perpetuates Racial entitlements.

That statement is not the first outrageous statement that Scalia has made, but it certainly shows that Scalia is not very smart , in fact it places him in the category of a racial bigot with a moronic mind. The right to vote is a fundamental right, Scalia seem to believe, as he intimated that those things cannot be left up to the congress, that he has the right to supplant the authority of elected officials with his own right wing views.

Antonin Scalia fancies himself a constitutionalist and a strict believer in the constitution, it appears however that on the issue of Blacks people in America, he wants to be King Scalia and force us back to the cotton plantations.

Clearly Scalia, based on his continued outrageous utterances from the bench, is not there to interpret the laws, as is his function, he has shown time and again that he is an activist Judge who believes in legislating from the bench.

Scalia

Scalia Thomas and Scalia

This is an outrageous statement even if it was coming from an elected member of the Congress, what makes it more chilling, is that it comes from a sitting member of the Supreme Court. It is one thing for one to argue that Food-Stamps, or Medicaid is an entitlement, but how can anyone in their right mind, equate the right to vote with entitlement.

This is a frightening development that must wake up the sleeping Giant which is the African Nation in America, if you ever thought you could trust the highest court in the land to protect your fundamental and existential right as a human being , maybe you really need to think twice about (Plessy VS Ferguson) , maybe you need to consider the words coming out of Antonin Scalia today.

It is an insult to all 37 million Africa-Americans, and truly all well meaning Americans, that Scalia would devalue the work and sacrifice of everyone who worked and fought and died, including those who were arrested then released into the arms of the (KLU KLUX KLAN) only to be murdered.

This is an affront to the dignity of every decent human being on this planet.

This is vintage Scalia making reckless statements, suggesting that the unanimity with which the Act was renewed, must be thrown out and supplanted with his views.

In the last General Elections under so-called normal circumstances, blacks stood in line 20 minutes to a comparable 12 minutes for whites to cast their votes. In States like Florida and others where there have been blatant attempts to suppress the Africa-American vote, American citizens stood in line over 8 hours to vote.

President Obama spoke to this issue in his recent State Of The Union Address.

In 2009 the Voting Rights Act was re-authorized by a strong bi-partisan plurality, these senators are elected by the people, if the voice of the people matters then this case should not even be before the Supreme Court.

This Act is important to the Principles of the American Democracy as it relates to the concept of one man one vote, it is in dire risk of being struck down by the right leaning Supreme Court.

Ironically, this assault on the voting Rights Act comes after Barack Obama was twice elected by the lion’s share of the minority vote. What we witnessed leading up to the last Presidential Elections was tantamount to stirring up a Hornet’s nest.

Statue of Rosa Parks Civil Rights Icon.

All across America from Pennsylvanian to Florida to Ohio, throughout the South there has been a systematic effort by Republican State Majorities in those Legislatures, to make it extremely difficult for non-whites to vote. The very same Supreme Court has intervened on instances to halt some of these attacks.

How then did we find ourselves in this place? If America believes in the principles of democracy , founded on the tenets of one man one vote, why is the Supreme Court even hearing this Case? Shouldn’t the fight be to increase voter participation rather than reducing it?

Black Americans have suffered immensely in their struggle for suffrage, many have been beaten, water-hosed, bitten by dogs and slaughtered, all for daring to demand they be treated as human beings. The very notion of a human being having to seek legitimacy, or even validation from another human is more than enough to engender rage, much less having to demand that another human recognize he is human, creates a whole new degree of incredulity.

The issue is that, freedom is never free, Fifty years after the Civil Rights Struggle African-Americans have allowed themselves to face the very specter of having to once again deal with dogs, billy clubs and inevitable death, in their quest for freedom. The old adage (those who forget the mistakes they made are bound to repeat them), is appropriate.

It is incomprehensible that a Nation which pontificates so much about freedom and Democracy , could have elements of its Government continue to expend energy and capital to restrict the rights and freedoms of sections of its citizenry.

And yes, Shelby County Alabama is using the taxes taken from it’s black citizens to make the case that they ought to be relegated to second class citizens.

Signs paid for by the Lunatic Right in the Midwest State of Ohio, in Black Communities.

It is easy to pass off as ignorant, the views that allowed for Jim Crow, and Bull Oc’Connor’s thugs. It’s easy to rationalize away the lynchings and the idiocy of separate but equal, one may smirk at the very notion of racial superiority, and we may fool ourselves into thinking that those 60’s events couldn’t happen again.

If you chose to believe these things cannot happen again , I ask you this “have you been paying attention? In State after State in America there has been a sustained attempt by the Republican Party to nullify the African-American vote through redistricting, and voter suppression methods to include, draconian voter ID laws, less voting days leading up to election day, intimidation, threats, confusing information to minority voters and more sinister methods all geared at suppressing the African-American vote.

In addition, they have used the powers vested in them in the State Legislatures they control, to enact legislation literally wiping out the rights of some citizens for all time. This they do by passing arbitrary and draconian statutes, which makes it impossible for anyone who ever find themselves afoul of the law to ever vote again, even after they have paid their debt to society.

Mitt Romney the Republican Party’s last candidate for the presidency, fundamentally believed that people who made mistakes and paid their debt, should lose the right to vote. The right to vote is the right to citizenship.

It is a damn shame that a Nation which wages war overseas under the pretext of spreading democracy is engaged in suppressing it’s racial minorities.

JAMAICA NO PROBLEM MON?

February 11th.2013 010

About 5 Months ago retired Superintendent Of Police Anthony Hewitt was unceremoniously gunned down as he embarked from his motor car reportedly to visit his son somewhere in the White Hall avenue area.

To date no one has been held responsible for the killing of Hewitt,a man who has given yeoman’s service to his country.

Yesterday Retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Denzil Boyd was gunned down as he returned to his home with his wife from church.

No picture of Denzil Boyd:

Jamaica is run by a Government that is largely made up of selfish ignorant half criminals, as blood continue to run the leadership of the country continues to look for IMF money to solve the country’s fiscal problems.

There is no plan to grow the economy by lowering, if not eliminating crime. The present Administration, led by Portia Simpson Miller is literally incapable of even comprehending what is required to pull Jamaica out of the decaying morass.PortiaA20100415NG_2

Miller

Listen, there are many capable female leaders who have great vision for their people. History is filled with them, Ben Gurion the famous Israeli leader famously said Gold a Meir was the only soldier he had. Golda Meir went on to become Prime Minister of Israel and a damn good one at that.

No one forgets Margaret Thatcher the iron lady of Britain, Presently the people’s republic of Germany is in the capable hands of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

So the issue is not gender, it is not of female competence, the issue is one of competence period, Portia Simpson Miller is incompetent.

As a result, Jamaica is mired in a downward spiral ‚even as other carribean Island nations pull themselves from the tentacles of this protracted world recession and are moving their people to first world status.

Miller is stuck. intractably stuck, in the politics of confrontation. Rather than seeking to find common ground, she would rather create confrontation where there is no need for rancor, her bellicose approach to every issue is a throw-back to another time in our history.

Many argue that her confrontational style is a cover that masks her lack of intellect and command of issues.

Essentially, it is the same type of parochial 3 miles, Spanish Town Road politics which we were used to in the 7o’s that now forms the heart of our national discourse.

As more Jamaicans run for other shores, those determined to stick it out do so at the peril of their lives.

Sadly, the incompetents who run the clown-show have police protection, until they are touched the blood letting continues.

POLITICIANS SERVE THEIR OWN INTEREST:

February 11th.2013 012

us house

If you decide to be a Doctor you have to get the necessary education as stipulated by law, you also have to satisfy State certification requirements.

This a very rigorous and arduous task which requires years of hard work ‚determination and sacrifice. This is true of literally all other disciplines. There is formal training, there are in many case, probationary on the job training, which requires step by step monitoring. It just doesn’t stop there, there are stipulations in law which requires Operating insurance, and a plethora of bureaucratic Federal, State, and County Regulations.

All of these hurdles created by, you guessed it, Politicians but have you ever thought about what is required of the politicians who lord over you? Seriously, other than their mammoth egos and narcissistic sense of self-importance there is really no other requirement except just getting elected.

Insofar as that is concerned it becomes even more galling that a populist, the class clown who barely squeezed through, but possesses the gift of gab and populism are generally the people who make life and death decisions for the rest of us.

Republicans have contributed greatly to the way the general public feels about Politicians, Congress’ approval is somewhere around 11%, make no mistake about it, this negative perception is as a result of the brain-dead Republicans in that body over the last 4 years.

Republicans blame Obama for being a partisan who doesn’t want to work with them, of course this is the best of the names they have for Obama. So Obama names Chuck Hagel a Republican from Nebraska to replace Panetta at Defense.

Republicans are now filibustering Hagel the President’s choice. This is unprecedented as only two other Cabinet choices have ever been denied confirmation in this country’s history.

The irony is that Harry Reid The Democratic leader in the Senate could have changed the filibuster rules and he failed to do so, some said out of fear that when the tables are turned he would not have that tool as an option. Of course the venomous snakes must have been laughing at him when he failed to put an end to the filibuster as constituted , they knew exactly that they would continue to jam the President’s agenda by continuing to abuse the filibuster option.

There is no such thing as a reasonable Republican those have long been purged from the party, the list is long,Charlie Crist, Colin Powell, Chuck Hagel, Dick Lugar, Arlen Specter(now deceased) as well as others on the lower rungs of the ladder. Others like John McCain once thought to be moderates have lunged with great alacrity to the right to head off primary challenges on their right flank..

In the case of John McCain the irony is even more pronounced, McCain fancied himself a maverick, a man of conviction, a man who stood on the principles of his convictions, it is the same McCain who is leading the charge against Hagel for standing on the principles of his convictions.

It was John McCain only a few years ago who said that Chuck Hagel would make a fine Secretary of State, of course this was when McCain was seeking the Presidency. So what has changed ? Well Chuck Hagel wants to be Secretary of Defense for Barack Obama and that is a disqualifier.

Lost in all of this is the fact that Chuck Hagel is a Republican, yes in case you thought the President’s choice was a Democrat, he is not, he is a former two-term Republican Senator from the red State of Nebraska.

So let’s examine what has transpired so far that could possibly cause Republicans in the Senate to be so hell-bent on derailing Chuck Hagel’s bid to be Secretary of Defense. before we do that however, let’s take a look at the lead band of Republican pontificaters in the Senate

.john mcain. lindsay grahamted cruz kelly ayote

John McCain Lindsay Graham Ted Cruz Kelly Ayotte

John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and Former Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman were a group of what many thought were a trio of independent thinkers in the Senate, it turned out that they were mere opportunists. With Lieberman out, they have recruited Kelly Ayotte the freshman Senator from New Hampshire to put a more sympathetic face on their shenanigans.

The fact is Ayotte is just another hack in the vein of Sarah Palin, maybe a little more educated. While we are on the subject, I challenge the continued hog-wash being perpetuated in the media that women are better consensus builders, better negotiators for the common good.

The entire notion that women are so much better at governance is literally domiciled in feminist utopia. There are less women in positions of power and authority, as such instances of abuse of power, and authority would naturally be amplified on the part of men.

Have you ever been pulled over by a female cop? many women attest to the fact that they much rather having a male boss. My point is that the entire raft of women in the Republican Party are all bitter partisans like their male counterparts.

John McCain Lindsay Graham and the new agitator Kelly Ayotte all conspired to torpedo the possible nomination of Susan Rice to be Secretary of State. Ayotte being dragged along had no idea why she was against Susan Rice, not that the others could articulate a reason they opposed Rice’s potential nomination either. So much for females doing the right thing.

McCain who has spent his entire adult life being elevated to God-status because of his former POW status has no compunction about leading the charge against Chuck Hagel who earned two purple hearts and still has shrapnel embedded in his body from his gallantry in Vietnam.

Even more galling is Ted Cruz line of questions to Hagel suggesting that Hagel may have earned hundreds of thousands of dollars from North Korea, of course Cruz has no facts to bear out his outlandish claims yet he did it anyway.

This miscreant never served a day in any of branch of the military, but seem to crave the role of present day Joe McCarthy.

Some argue as McCain alluded, that Republicans are extracting their pound of flesh from Hagel for his stance on Bush and the Iraq war. Whats interesting is that Chuck Hagel opposed the illegitimate Cheney /Bush war of choice, he was right, they were wrong. Hagel understands and argues for the Judicious use of America’s Military power, he has the wounds to show, he’s entitled.

On issue after issue Hagel has been right when his party has been in the wrong. Hagel went to the Middle East with candidate Obama, they are friends. Both Obama and Hagel agree on the need for a smaller, leaner, smarter military, with less duplication and bloat, they do not plan on waging ill-advised wars.

That is at the heart of the John McCain led war on Chuck Hagel. Neo-cons wants to have America engaged in never ending wars, thats how their super wealthy puppet masters make money. Corporations which manufacture weapons needs to make money by supplying weapons the military does not need but which the poor taxpayers are forced to pay for to keep them filthy rich.

That is at the heart of mister bomb, bomb, bomb Iran McCain’s war on Obama and Hagel, plus that old man is a great bearer of grudge, he will not just go away after a loss, he stays and make a nuisance of himself, he did it to George Bush the last President from his own party, he is doing it to Obama, and no one will call out McCain on it.

At what time does the fact that McCain’s protective cover as a former prisoner of war become obsolete, how much longer will he abuse others while he himself is insulated from righteous rebuttal and just confrontation?

John McCain is not the only person ever captured in war, many other Americans have served , many paid the ultimate price in defense of America, many endured more than McCain, many returned to segregation , to be spat on, ridiculed, and forced to the colored drinking fountains and the back of the bus.

Many returned to be billy clubbed by uniformed thugs with badges, many returned to be tethered to pick-up trucks and dragged, ending up decapitated by vile bigots. Many returned to despair, degradation, denial, deprivation, and humiliation.

What makes McCain any different than any other soldier who fought and bled or paid the ultimate price for country? What is the reason so many fall over themselves to be deferential to a man who abuses others, by virtue of his own knowledge of that seeming infinite well of good-will and deference?

What is happening is a damn shame, Republicans are ruining the country from opposition, oblivious to the will of the voters who spoke in no uncertain terms regarding the direction they wanted for the country. Republicans are determined that the will of the majority be damned, they will wreck the economy as they have harmed the country’s credit rating.

This seem laughable to the rest of the world that Americans could allow this to prevail even after an election where voters made their choice clear. Clearly rules which allows a single Senator to grandstand by holding up any President’s nominee needs changing.

Republicans have decided that they will run the country from the minority, they have decided that the only bills which will become law are the bills which gives them 100% of what they want.

On that basis the results of the elections are worth nothing.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO SMALL NATIONS?

Last Night’s State of the Union Address by President Obama was the first of his second term, I sat watching the president and writing a blog simultaneously, then I did something (no idea what), and lost it all so I went to bed.

United Nation's Building
United Nation’s Building

As the president spoke I thought about not just America’s future but also that of small dependent nations like my Island home Jamaica. Jamaicans were recently told by their financial benefactor The (IMF) that it will have to adopt even more stringent measures than before to show it is worthy of more credit. Jamaica’s debt to earning ratio is horribly out of whack, Jamaica pays more of its earnings to servicing its astronomical debt burden than almost all other countries on Earth including Greece. After servicing its interest payments there is very little money left do anything on the people’s behalf. This is particularly galling because of Jamaica’s crippling corruption epidemic. As important as Obama’s speech was for middle and lower-class Americans, so too was it important for countries like Jamaica on issues like Immigration, and jobs programs.

Simply put, if there are less deportees to Jamaica if there is real immigration reform, it would ease some of the criminality so rampant on the Island. More money in the pockets of working-class Americans means they are more likely to take vacations to places like the carribean. Nothing that President Obama proposed last night will matter if Republicans do not go along, if last night was an indication of whats to come then there will not be much accomplished legislatively in Obama’s second term. Republicans in the Congress sat on their hands when the President proposed raising the minimum wage to US$9, they sat on their hands on the Violence against Women Act, Rubio voted no just yesterday. They sat on their hands on the jobs Act Proposal. The fact is the only thing Republicans are excited about is drilling for oil in America’s wet lands . To hell with the environment , as long as their super rich contributors are satisfied. The irony of the night was Florida republican Senator Marco Rubio the 41-year-old wunderkind who has being trumpeted to be the savior of the ridiculously Neanderthal Republican Party. The problem is, Marco Rubio is the product of Cuban Immigrants who came to the United States in 1956 . Rubio and his parents have benefited much from Government largess.

drink

Florida’s Republican US Senator Marco Antonio Rubio.

Marco Rubio who is a lawyer has now reached the top and he is pulling the ladder away from anyone not at the top where he is perched. Marco Antonio is now a T‑Party darling, he is regarded as the “crown prince of the Tea Party movement”.

Marco Rubio is not just a guy who is pulling away the ladder for the poor , for women , for the old and indigent, this guy has proven to be a monumental fraud. In his now infamous Watergate response to the President Rubio pontificated that he was for the poor, he went on to state that he lives in the same middle-class neighborhood with retirees. However Rachel Maddow of MSNBC reported that Rubio’s house in the so-called middle class neighborhood ‚has been on the market for a whopping 600+ Thousand dollars.

So the little Cuban-American crown prince of the T‑Party who loves the middle class so much, really wants to move to Washington DC where he may further ingratiate himself with the 1%.

As President Obama contend with the radical right-wing party, hell-bent on circumventing the will of the majority, countries like Jamaica must do what it takes to get their own economies on the right track. There will be no handouts coming from countries like the United States that will significantly change their circumstances.

They will have to make tough choices, in Jamaica’s case, it is rampant corruption and run-away criminality which is choking the life-blood out of the country, economically and literally. Jamaica however , has a tough road to hoe as it is stuck with political leaders who either do not understand what crime and corruption is doing to our country, or are too heavily invested in those vices to care,. either way it will be a difficult way forward for Jamaica.

IS OBAMA IGNORING AFRICAN-AMERICANS?

The Obama Administration’s less than adequate defense of UN Ambassador Susan Rice, coupled with the lack of blacks in his Administration has left some key members of the black political élite voicing their dissatisfaction with the President.

President Obama inherited a mess, no question, he has done an admirable job, even despite historic obstruction and intransigence from Republicans in the Congress.

Barring a catastrophic screw-up in the next four years, the President will place himself among greats like Lincoln, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. If Obama can lead and sign a comprehensive Immigration Bill, which by the way Republicans are anxious to be a part of for obvious reasons, and if he can do something about the destruction being wrought on the environment, and bring the unemployment numbers down to say 5% he will definitely be seen as a great President.

Obama will never face the electorate again, so there is no need for posturing or timidity. This is the time for Obama to look after his key constituents, the black community.

Obama was elected to office with a vast plurality of the African-American vote in 2008 and in the 2012 elections, he received an even greater share during the last election cycle with an increase of 2 percentage points over the 2008 election cycle.

This kind of loyalty cannot be scoffed at. African-Americans stood in line for up to 8 hours in order to send a message to Republicans. President Obama needs to stand with the people who made him who he is. I totally get the fact that during his first term there were pressing issues which required the President’s attention full-time. The economy, the Affordable Care Act, Winding down 2 wars, ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, Restoring America’s Image abroad, and a plethora of other issues.

Despite his full plate, he was able to put Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan on the Supreme Court, in addition to placing women in key cabinet positions.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis
Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank (acting
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano
Secretary of Health and Humanservices Kathleen Sibelius

Of the 15 Cabinet Positions a third went to women, when viewed in the prism of the two Supreme Court Appointees the President did an admirable job, considering women now represent the largest voting block in the country.

Solis and Sotomayor are Latinos, a step in the right direction, considering that Latinos represents the fastest growing segment of the population, and have given Obama the lion’s share of their votes both times he got elected.

Arguably Obama has shown women and Latinos that he respects their efforts in getting him elected, of the other 10 Cabinet positions however Obama could only find one slot for an African-America, Eric Holder at the Justice Department.

Some argue that Rice’s position at the UN is similar to a Cabinet Position, and Valerie Jarrett in her role as Advisor wield considerable influence over the President. The truth is African-Americans are the back bone of the Democratic Party, That voting block does not even come up in discussions, as among the groups Republicans should look to attract anymore,They are like settled Law.

There is a kind of quite resignation on the part of many, that the African-American vote will stay exactly where it is for the foreseeable future. Of course this is due largely to the bone-headed ignorant and moronic racists who occupy and permeate the Republican Party whose leaders have made it clear that African-Americans are (persona non grata ) Not welcome.

African-Americans supported the Republican Party until the 60’s, then the Republican Party made itself a safe haven for disgruntled whites Racists over the signing of the Civil Rights Act by President Lyndon Johnson.

Florida Democratic Congress man Alcee Hastings did not mince words when he lashed out at the President, for what he characterizes as (Obama’s disrespect of blacks).

Speaking Friday at the mid-winter convention of the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA), Hastings had a lot to say which was not complimentary to the President.

In a speech laced with humor and expletives Hastings went on a tear.

Quote: “The Black Caucus of Congress sent 61 names to the White House, “Time went by. Not one of that 61 was selected – not one”.

:The CBC pressed the Obama campaign about the paucity of advertising with Black newspapers in particular. He said a top campaign official said Obama initially planned to spend only $650,000 with Black newspapers, a figure that was raised under pressure to $1 million – which meant that $999 million went to others.

:“If I was president of the United States, there is no way in hell that I would raise a billion dollars and don’t spend but a million dollars with people who probably had as much to do with my becoming president as anybody,” .

:“It was nine months into the administration before he appointed a single person, not just at the cabinet level … ” Hasting recalled. “But when you look at the Schedule 1, Schedule 2, and Schedule 3, none in his first nine months of his administration was from a historically Black college.

Despite all of the female appointments over his first term, women are still out for their pound of proverbial flesh .When the picture above hit the web, showing the President and his group of top advisers, pretty much all white male, women’s advocacy groups and commentators were up in arms.

No one bothered to mention that the first African-American President elected and re-elected with over 80%of the black vote could not find a single qualified black person to be among that group.

Whether one agrees with Alcee Hastings, or some of the more strident voices on the left like former Princeton Professor Cornell West, and Media personality Tavis Smiley, there does seem to be a pattern of aloofness and disconnect of Obama from the African-American community. Maybe it’s just over-sensitivity on the part of black people, who expected that the group hit the hardest during the recession would be at the top of the agenda for attention.

Smiley and West

Whether you accept what Obama’s detractors are saying or not , it would be silly to disregard their arguments, these are actually people who supported the President, all they are asking is that the President pay attention to issues dear to them.

The issues of Hunger, Homelessness, Poverty, Declining Income, Declining Wealth, Rampant Injustice in the Justice System, Out of wedlock pregnancy, and diseases are not confined to African-Americans, but they do affect that demographic more severely than it does others.

If the spending which Republicans hearken to is removed from the Obama’s record ‚Obama is a pretty conservative President. If his first term is anything to go by. Most of Obama’s policies are continuation of Bush’s policies, some of the people who execute his policies are hold overs from the Bush Administration. Bob Gates, and David Petraeus are just a couple of the high-profile holdovers from the last Republican Administration, and he is putting Chuck Hagel another Republican back at Defense.

Additionally, Obama has shown total indifference to the plight of Immigrants except just prior to the recent elections. The issue of Immigration is incorrectly approached as a Latino issue. There are millions of people from other parts of the world who aren’t Latinos.

The Obama Deportation Policy has been a disaster for families which have been ripped apart, with mass deportations of immigrants who committed minor offences, some decades ago.

No thought is given to the fact that many of the people are plucked up and sent to countries where they have no connection, in some cases people are deported to countries they have never been to.

Those are just some of the draconian policies of the Obama first term being executed under the guise of upholding the laws, leaving children without parents, wives without husbands, all because of minor infractions.

In fact Obama has deported more people than any other President in American History, additionally Obama has granted the least amount of pardons of any American President in modern history, to include all Republican Presidents.

Whether we like these statistics or not is immaterial, these are facts, we may spin them , me may nuance them , we may try to rationalize them away , but nothing makes them any less true.

Despite the last-minute Executive Order Obama signed before the Elections granting temporary reprieve to so-called dreamers, which by the way guaranteed him more of the Hispanic vote, Hispanics are demanding that he do more on their behalf.

It is only fair that Obama come to the table with a comprehensive Urban Renewal plan aimed at the African-American population. There is approximately 40 million people in that community, and they must now demand to be heard and recognized from this President.

Thus far the president has shown very little connection to the Afro-American community. If the way the Susan Rice issue was handled is a barometer of the President’s commitment to his friends, the African-American community is in for a long four years.

SUSAN RICE HUNG OUT TO DRY:

As the Obama Administration embarks on its 2nd term there will undoubtedly be triumphs and travails. It appears that in every Administration there are players whom are sacrificial lambs. Oliver North under Reagan, Harriet Myers under Bush 43rd, and now Susan Rice under Obama.

It seem to me though, that Susan Rice was made to look like a fool, in order that the Obama Administration may have the nominee it really wanted for the state department John Kerry. I make no claim to know how Washington DC works, but it seem to me that Obama was not prepared to fight for the woman he calls his friend. One may be cynical about the motives of Senate Republicans, understandably so, they want another shot at the Massachusetts Senate seat that John Kerry is vacating to head the State Department.

The venom with which John McCain, Kelly Ayotte, Lindsay Graham and others came out against Ambassador Rice leaves me to wonder if there is not more to it than meets the eyes. Separate and apart from the cynically obvious craven desire of Republicans to potentially pick up another Senate seat, it does seem there was a deeper and more conspiratorial plot afoot when McCain referred to Kerry as Mister secretary, while he and others were simultaneously waging a visceral war against an African-American woman, exponentially more qualified than he McCain or either of his cohorts to head the State Department, or any other job for that matter. There have also been whispers that many in the Republican Party actually believe that Rice has been promoted far enough.

Obama and Rice conferring. John Kerry

Now that is quite understandable, the Republican Party would absolutely prefer to see blacks back on the plantation, Black woman, maybe worse. Floating Susan Rice’s name then backing away was cowardly and cynical. Rice has been one of Obama’s staunchest supporters, even before he became President. John McCain bears the scars of Rice’s unmitigated defense of Obama in the 2008 presidential campaign. Barack Obama did not take a scratch for Susan Rice, he did not reciprocate the loyalty Rice demonstrated on his behalf. What is political capital if you don’t spend it on principles?

Irrespective of what others say, Blacks are the foundation of the Democratic Party and the spine that puts and kept Barack Obama in the White House. To have only Eric Holder in the top echelon of the cabinet is inexcusable and cowardly, as I said before, a Barack Obama with backbone would shove Susan Rice down Republicans throats. The cordiality we saw extended to Kerry on the first day of hearings, was a love-fest, compared to how Hillary was treated the day before.

John McCain Kelly Ayotte

Lindsay Graham

Of course Republicans were in love with Hillary Clinton, previous to this their last attempt to bloody her nose. The Clintons were just a month ago Republicans idea of good Democrats. Of course Obama has been re-elected to a second 4 year term, so their attentions are now refocused on attacking the Clintons, just in case Hillary decides to run for president in 2016. I have no quarrel with the idea of a Secretary of State John Kerry, after all it’s only fair that Obama reward Kerry with something, it was Kerry who elevated Obama’s profile by giving him prime time keynote speaking time at his Nominating convention in 2004.

Maybe if Obama had not given that red state blue state speech at Kerry’s convention, we would not have a twice elected Barack Obama. I have no quarrel with Senator Kerry, I thought he would have been a good President, He will be a great Secretary of State, I just don’t believe Susan Rice should have been the Ram caught in the bushes and sacrificed as in the biblical story of Abraham and his son Isaac.

  • There are credible rumblings that many in the Republican Party feel strongly that Susan Rice has been promoted far enough. I am not quite sure whether it’s the black or the woman part of Susan Rice they hate more, or maybe both.
  • Susan Rice has been a loyal soldier for Obama, Obama has let Rice down.
  • The love-fest I saw between Kerry and his Senate Republican colleagues on Thursday January 24th was a stark reminder, that when it comes down to it people look out for others who look like themselves.
  • Can Barack Obama say the same?
  • As African-Americans returned from Vietnam to segregation, ridicule, and racial bigotry, so too has Susan Rice been treated even as she continues to give stellar and exemplary service to country.
  • Many who criticizes and castigate her are significantly less qualified than she is, they lack the intellect, the education, and the strength of character she has demonstrated in her service to her country.
  • Many who are now held up as heroes, actually spilled their guts under pressure.
  • Susan Rice has nothing of which to be ashamed.

The Fallacy Of False Equivalence:

Republicans started a massive campaign of obstructionism against the newly elected Barack Obama in 2008, even before the president was inaugurated the machinery was already in place not just to make Obama a one term president but to make him such a failure, his record would be a dis-qualifier to all other African-American upstarts who ever got the grand idea they wanted to be president.

Like everything else which has its Genesis in bad faith, this mentality became a monster; the more they hated Obama the more far right they lurched. That condition I characterized as Barack Obama derangement syndrome. As it got bigger and bigger it forced the party farther and farther to the right, those within its ranks who were not true believers were summarily discarded.

Former Governor Charlie Crist of Florida, Long time Senator Richard Luger of Indiana, The late Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, and a litany of others were routinely driven from the party. Others kept quite or prostituted themselves on the altar of right-wing conservatism to avoid having to face primary opponents from their right flank, chief among them Arizona John McCain, and South Carolina’s Lindsay Graham.

McCain and Graham, two senators who were once thought to be voices of reason within an increasingly unreasonable reactionary Republican party, have become two of the most strident and bellicose with Obama derangement syndrome, often times raising eyebrows as to the reasoning behind their stance.

As the party moved farther to the right on the issues the party became swallowed up to the point it is now almost impossible to differentiate the difference between the lunatic fringe and the party, some have concluded there are no differences between the two, they are one and the same.

As an outsider I have long argued that the Press has failed dismally in its duties to point decisively at the radicalization and obstructionism of the republican party, but even more that than that, he press has failed to speak clearly and decisively about the harm the republican party is causing the country ‚because of its radical far right agenda .

What the Press has done is to use it’s time instead to conflate the two parties into a dysfunctional mush of what is wrong with Washington DC.

The main stream media has long been labeled pro-left, pro-democratic or more recently the elitist left media, of course the source of this labeling is the radical lunatics on the right who have fought this psychological warfare with the press, cowing the vast majority of what would have been object media entities into creating a false equivalence between what they do and those on the other side who chose to point to their dysfunction.

At the center of that fear may very well be found the reason that the Press, or what I prefer to call, the lame-stream Media is reluctant to stridently call out the Republican Party on its ideological lunacy.

Norm Ornstein and Thomas Mann have made careers as political scientists who focused on non-partisan analysis and eschewed singling out either party for bad behavior. That changed with the publication of their book, It’s Even Worse Than It Looks, which lamented that American politics had become more dysfunctional and that the Republican Party bore the brunt of the blame for the most recent offenses.

And after they made this argument, no one treated the news very seriously. Francis Wilkinson writes in Bloomberg about possible reasons why their theory failed to catch on:

It’s hard to imagine a more wholesale indictment from two eminent political scientists, each with a decades-long track record of nonpartisan analysis. It’s equally hard to imagine the press quietly absorbing a similarly pedigreed indictment of the Democratic Party; the élite press, in particular, would likely talk of nothing else. Yet mainstream news outlets, while giving the authors fairly prominent play, seem to treat the their thesis as neither new nor news.

What gives?

Perhaps it’s the soft bigotry of low expectations. The most anguish over the state of the Republican Party seems to flow from conservatives in varied states of excommunication, such as David Frum, Bruce Bartlett and a cadre of smart, young writers who object to the empowered-state vision of Democrats but can’t abide the devolution of the Republicans. Many liberals, having perhaps never given sufficient credence to conservative thought in the first place, regard the book’s premise with a knowing shrug. Elected Republicans, naturally, dismiss the book as partisan hackery (though former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel gave it an enthusiastic blurb). Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, with characteristic deference to facts, denounced the authors as “ultra, ultra liberal.” But the authors – and their centrist disposition — are well-known. Perhaps their thesis is, too. It’s just that no one knows what can be done about it, or by whom.http://http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/07/26/ornstein-mann.html

There are no surprises in the fact that the Neanderthal minority leader from Kentucky would ignorantly dismiss these two men as liberal extremists, after all what Mitch McConnell cannot understand he labels and hates.

Conversely former senator Chuck Hagel has always been a sane and reasonable senator and human being.

On issue after issue the American media has fallen short of its obligations, maybe the mission statement have changed, if this is so, then it is only proper that the media tell the American people it no longer seek truth irrespective of where it leads,or that it no longer is the guardian of our democracy.

It appears that the media houses that are not in the pockets of the far right are petrified of being labeled leftist that they acquiesce with the talking points of the far right and in too many cases find comfort in the moral dishonesty of false equivocation.

Fox News is a propaganda tool of the far right , it propagates and disseminates false-hoods, smear and propaganda, conversely MSNBC built their following on literally fact checking and ridiculing FOX and Republicans in general, this actually started with former host Keith Olberman who had beef with FOX’s blow-hard Bill O’Reilly.

Yet there is a concerted effort within the media fraternity to make the false parallel that FOX and MSNBC are basically doing the same thing. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Even those who fancy themselves media-critics like CNN’s Howard Kurtz has fallen victim to making that disingenuous parallel.

That moral cowardice on the part of the media, has literally emboldened the forces of the far right into adopting much more authoritarian principles into their platform.

No one challenged the Bush Administration when Cheney clearly was manufacturing evidence to launch America into an illegitimate war of choice, and after it was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Iraq war was carried out on fabrication and lies, no one was held accountable to this day, despite the tens of thousands of dead and maimed Iraqi’s and Americans.

The war on women:

The war on Immigrants:

Voter Suppression:

The war against Organized Labor:

The war against Gays and Lesbians:

The war against the poor and most vulnerable:

On issue after issue, what now obtains as the Republican party has been clear and unequivocally radical policies against the masses, and toward a chosen sub sector, yet the Media have remained impotently silent.

As I write this people in the State of Wisconsin have had their rights to collective bargaining stripped away from them, workers in Michigan just saw their Republican Governor sign away their rights under what is called (right to work) which is Union busting in a nut-shell .

Thus far 28 States have adopted so-called right to work laws, which strips away workers rights to collectively bargain for better pay and working conditions, those rights were the cornerstones which built the middle class in this country.

At the center of these draconian anti-Union laws are rich Billionaires, who are funneling huge sums of money into what appear at first glance to be legitimate grass-roots organisations, but are nothing more than shell groups designed to distort the truth and deny workers their rights.

On this and other matters of grave National interest the media is complicit in its silence.

When the Unions are castrated there will be no buffer between the dirty money of Charles and David Koch Sheldon Adelson and average Americans.

These aforementioned Billionaires and others have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in the elections of 2012 trying to turn back the rights of ordinary people to vote, to organize and join Unions, and to have a say in their democracy.

On the occasion of the last election they were defeated but not deterred, they are even more determined to buy this democracy, strengthened and buoyed by the Supreme Court Citizens United Decision, which allows huge sums of money to flood the political system under the guise of free speech.

Labor organizes, supports workers and ordinary Americans, they get out their members to vote, this makes organized labor the mortal enemy of billionaire Industrialists like Charles and David Koch, who shroud their nefarious activities with legitimate philanthropic donations.

The challenge to ordinary Americans are their inability to understood the seriousness of these issues, and their inclination to vote and support causes and legislation that are diametrically opposed to their own self-interest.

And yes on these critically relevant issues the lame-stream media(Press) is silent.

PRESIDENTIAL AUTHORITY.

We were always led to believe that it was a manager’s perogative to choose his team, in sports , business and certainly, the presidency of the United States. There is a lot to be said for senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, being considered for the role of Secretary of State of the United States. Senator Kerry after all has been the person who gave Barack Obama a national stage on which to shine. John Kerry made Obama the keynote speaker at his convention in 2004.

Fast forward to 2012 and the presidential campaign, John Kerry was an unwavering and staunch supporter of Obama. Senator Kerry has given of himself , standing in as Mitt Romney as Obama prepared for the debates leading up to the 2012 elections. Throughout the Obama presidency John Kerry has been a vocal and staunch supporter of the president and his administration, something that cannot be said of many democrats.

John Kerry’s presidential run was torpedoed because republican right wing smear machine was able to turn a decorated Vietnam war hero into a caricature, and at the same time it placed a man who hid out the entire war because of his family name and influence. It would please me supremely to see Obama reward Senator Kerry with the nomination to be the next secretary of state, many argue it’s a job Kerry really wants.

With that said there is something that must be said for a Kerry nomination, were the president to buck conventional wisdom and not pick Susan Rice.

Every President, as all managers do, absolutely have the right to pick the team he or she chose to serve in their administration. It says a lot about presidential authority, if Barack Obama were to allow John McCain and the right to dictate to him who he chose to fill vacancies within his administration.

The US Constitution gives the Senate oversight, (advise and consent) they have the power to do due diligence, in determining in their informed judgement, whether a nominee is qualified for the post to which he/she is nominated. They may vote no, that is the right of each of the 100 senators.

Susan Rice

What they do not have, is a Constitutional right to besmirch a person who has not even had her name entered for nomination. Susan Rice has not been nominated to the post of secretary of state, it leads us to ask then,” what is the fire-storm about”? What is the obsession and venom for?

It would seem there is a certain disdain within the republican party for African-Americans, Van Jones the (crazy communist), Susan Rice(unqualified), Eric Holder( conspirator of fast and furious), Valerie Jarrett (no experience to do anything) or Obama himself.(community organizer who never ran anything).

This new love republicans have for senator Kerry is at best cynical and insulting, it goes to the heart of presidential authority, yet deeply troubling in intent. If Senator Kerry was to vacate his senate seat, it would immediately open up the potential for recently defeated senator Scott Brown to be rewarded with another senate seat up there in Massachusetts.

The political gamesmanship being perpetuated by republicans undercuts the president’s ability to choose his own team, not only that it potentially empowers them in a senate where Mitch McConnell has made it his duty to obstruct every piece of legislation the president tries to get through there.

McConnell and republicans opposed to Obama, has abused the filibuster process in that body literally making sure very little gets done outside presidential fiat,(executive order)

On that basis I strongly believe the president should nominate Susan Rice and ram her down their damn throats„ he cannot appear to acquiesce to the extortionist strong-arm methods being employed by republicans wrapped in the John McCain packaging.

Obama just won re-election by almost a hundred electoral votes, and a wide plurality of the raw vote. The voters have spoken, the elections are over, if republicans don’t want to govern then Obama must ram the progressive agenda down their throats until they gag.

But if his past is anything to go by, Obama will cave in the name of bipartisanship, of course many on the right believe he has no right being president, why would he then allow his presidency to be dictated by them? Republicans have used every tactic to get Obama to do their bidding , even though he beat them twice at the ballot box, most of his achievements are closer to republican policies than that of a progressive president.

It is time for Obama to man up and get going on the progressive agenda, he was elected twice, he does not need to face voters again, this is the time for him to do what he was elected to do.

The first order of business is to nominate Susan Rice, ram her down their throats and get moving on his second term.

The issue of what happened in the Libyan town of Benghazi is a legitimate matter for Congressional oversight, as such, any congressional review body, duly constituted, has a duty to get to the bottom of what exactly happened, find out why it happened, who is responsible if there are failures of responsibility, and take corrective action to ensure that the likelihood of recurrence is minimized if not potentially eliminated.

The family of slain Ambassador Chris Stephens has asked republicans not to politicize the death of their loved one, this has not stopped the onslaught of attacks from the right led by sore loser John McCain and his South Carolina side-kick Lindsay Graham. Barack Obama, president of the United States is the person who sent Ambassador Stephens to Africa, not John McCain or Lindsay Graham, neither of whom have the authority to do so. It follows therefore that the president would want to know what happened, probably more-so than either of the two aforementioned antagonists.

Their line of attack has taken a tone reminiscent of the two campaigns Obama has been involved in for the presidency, they refer to the term “our embassy in Benghazi” as if it’s their own, and it need to be protected from Obama, as with most other assets of the federal bureaucracy.

Republicans are conversant with the importance of optics, they are stupid , but not totally dense, so they have solicited the help of a female, that female is Kelly Ayotte the junior senator from New Hampshire. Kelly Ayotte has no foreign affairs credentials which would make her qualified to critique Susan Rice’s stellar record, but they believe it gives them cover. McCain and Graham do not want to be seen as two old white males abusing an African-American Woman, which in fact is what it is.

They have talked about not wanting to promote anyone who may have had anything to do with Benghazi, as a lay person it boggles the mind as to how McCain et al see themselves coming out on the right side of this charade, many experts and analysts struggle to figure out the reason for this line of attack by the right.

Many argue that republicans believe Rice has been promoted far enough. The circumstances surrounding Condoleezza Rice telling America about a potential mushroom cloud was exponentially worse that this drummed up witch-hunt, yet Both McCain and Graham supported Condoleezza Rice’s nomination for secretary of state.

Susan Rice had nothing to do with Benghazi, zero, Condoleezza Rice had everything to do with pushing America into a war of choice, based on what they now argue was faulty intelligence, people with brains will tell you they manufactured intelligence to legitimize that war with Iraq.

Susan Rice used the intelligence given to her by the intelligence community, republicans are not attacking David Petraeus , they are not attacking Hillary Clinton who runs the state department, so we must ask what is the reason for the assault on Susan Rice?

Barack Obama must stop making concessions to the republican right, he gets to determine who gets on his team , Republicans who go on television to argue for the nomination of Senator Kerry are doing so out of their own self-interest and not out of love for John Kerry. These were the same people who swift-boated Kerry the war veteran.

By definition what they are doing is telling the president who they want him to name to be secretary of state, if Obama let them decide they get another United State Senator , plain and simple.

On display is today’s republican party, it is now a sinister, duplicitous, underhanded and mendacious bunch of desperate white male frightened that the world they knew is passing them by.

This is a cynical but brilliant move on the part of republicans, I must say, I cannot credit John McCain with coming up with this, he is not that bright. They are using McCain to sell this fiasco to the American people because of his faux high ground on matters of foreign affairs.

Neither McCain nor any of his band of antagonist defended war hero John Kerry when Bush’s people pilloried that patriot, now all of a sudden they are pushing for Secretary of State John Kerry.

There is just one problem with their advocacy, losers do not get to pick the cabinet.

REPUBLICANS NOW LOOKING FOR ANYTHING TO ATTACH THE WORD( GATETO:

Much like they did after Bill Clinton was reelected in 1996 Republicans are on the hunt once again to find a scandal with which to distract the country. They are trying to create the impression the Administration is involved in a scandal, deny the president his agenda and win the next mid-term election.

You have already heard the words from all of their lying operatives , the same talking points “we want an investigation much like Water-Gate, and Iran-Contra”, in reference to Benghazi. What they do not tell you is that both those scandals were Republican scandals, one resulting in the only American president resigning from office, and the other resulting in a senior military aide taking the fall for the President.

I’m sure you thought they would have gotten the message after the trouncing they took from the Obama led Democratic ticket on November 6th 2012,.……nah , they have to learn hard.

Learning the hard way for Republicans will mean actually losing a few National elections. This Republican Party as it is constituted will not suddenly change. It will have to suffer several crushing losses in order to evolve.

The Republican Party as constituted is not beholden to voters, it is beholden to an unelected lobbyist Grover Norquist who scares each and every candidate for the House and Senate into signing a pledge never to raise taxes, at the peril of being primaried with a candidate who tows the line.

Of course there is the T‑Party, a front group funded and financed by rich Industrialists like Charles and David Koch, Sheldon Adelson and other Billionaires who are hell-bent on owning the government for their own financial end.

You would never know this if you just assume they are the innocent middle age white women and ordinary looking every-day people you see articulating the T‑Party’s message. Just dig a little deeper, peel another layer off that onion and it becomes crystal clear that there is significantly much more going on just beneath the surface.

Both Political Parties are somewhat beholden to special interest , in fact just this week the newly reelected President Obama met at the White House with several groups, Labor , Business, Civic, and of course Congressional leaders. The reason for the series of meetings was to bring all stake-holders on board for the tax hikes he ran on.

Of course there are Interest groups which make up the Democratic Party’s Coalition, Labor, Blacks, Asians,Women, Gays. Lesbians, Jews, Latinos, essentially everyone not a white Anglo-Saxon male ,

Norquist:  Limbaugh

The Republican party does not believe there is a need for change, in fact many in the party still maintain that their message is a strong one, despite a crushing defeat just days ago, in which they lost seat in the House even in recently gerrymandered districts , redrawn in their favor, they lost seats in the Senate , a body where Democrats were forced to defend most of the seats they had and it was predicted they would not be able to retain control. Democrats won the biggest prize of all by taking the presidency with a whopping 303 – 206 electoral votes.

Romney tells donors the President gave gifts to Americans and then turned them out to vote for him , his running mate, equally dense , maintained that people turned out to vote, and that was the reason they lost. One republican in the state of Maine said he saw black people at the polls , and wondered where they lived, I guess blacks are not supposed to live or vote in lily-white Maine, I mean where do these retards come from?

There is not enough time and space to document the idiotic, moronic and neanderthal utterances which have come out of the mouths of Republican’s, mostly shell-shocked white males.

It is not an easy thing being a white male in America it seem these days, There is a black man in the White House, that’s gotta be killing them, not to worry, let them carry some stress for a change.

At the top of the leader board in the present day Republican Party are Norquist, Limbaugh, and the T‑Party, then there are the second tier lackeys at FOX .

Then there are the elected republicans like John McCain who have grown accustomed to stupid reporters from the lame-stream media asking what they thought about issues, are scared stiff , that they are rapidly becoming irrelevant.

As such McCain has waged a rear-guard battle against the Obama Administration since he was defeated in 2008, despite the Obama White House being one of the most scandal-free administrations in the history of this republic. The knack on Obama ironically, is that he does not schmooze with the Washington crowd, many argue he holds them in contempt. I actually do hope he does, most of them are rather contemptible.

The last Republican Administration was literally above the law, they committed torture in contravention of International Law. They vengefully and politically outed a CIA operative, Valerie Plame, in order to get back at her husband A,bassador Joe Wilson, for calling out the Bush administration for lying and fabricating evidence to start a war with Iraq. Then started and waged an illegal war against the Iraqui people . Rendered battlefield combatants to countries where they maintained dark sites, and had them tortured, and a plethora of other crimes. No one was held criminally responsibly for any of those crimes with the exception of Dick Cheney’s aide Scooter Libby who was given a slap on the wrist for lying in the outing of Valerie Plame.

John McCain:

This led me to do some research on John McCain, I wanted to find out why he hated Susan Rice the US Ambassador to the UN and possible replacement to Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

Rice, a Clinton administration veteran, became Obama’s senior foreign-policy adviser, after she chose him over Hillary Clinton early in the presidential race. That put Rice squarely in opposition to McCain, each time the war veteran tried to challenge the junior senator’s national security credentials.

Some of her choice quotes:

His tendency is to shoot first and ask first questions later, it is dangerous and we can’t afford four more years of this reckless foreign policy,” Susan Rice said to reporters about McCain in August 2008.

When McCain tried to paint Obama as someone who routinely shied away from tough decisions on Iraq, Rice was there to tear down his record.

On critical, factual questions that are fundamental to understanding what is going on in Iraq and the region, Senator McCain has gotten it wrong and not just once but repeatedly,” said Rice in June 2008.

With reference to the situation in Georgia where McCain announced ‘today we are all Georgian’s:

We were dealing with the facts as we knew them,” Rice said on MSNBC. “John McCain shot from the hip, very aggressive, belligerent statement. He may or may not have complicated the situation.”

And a reference to McCain strolling around the market in Iraq with heavy security to prove how safe it was:

Rice even got personal with McCain when Obama traveled overseas to visit the Middle East.“I think he wants to get out and do as much as he can Rice said about Obama’s trip. “I don’t think he’ll be strolling around the market in a flak jacket.”

Rice was subtly referring to McCain’s trip to Iraq a year earlier, after he was mocked by liberals for wearing body armor while visiting what looked like a peaceful market in Baghdad.

John McCain is the bitterest of sore losers and hasn’t forgotten or forgiven what he perceives as Barack Obama usurping his supposed strong suit of foreign policy and national security, with Susan Rice being the one slinging the arrows at him. So he has been on this faux Benghazi scandal like a pit bull, even after General Petraeus’ new testimony has embarrassed him beyond belief.(dailykos.com)

So there we have it John McCain who has benefitted from his status as a prisoner of war for decade, fears irrelevance, so he takes out his insecurities and short comings on an eminently qualified woman.

McCain has sat atop that pinnacle as a person who no one dare question on foreign policy, this is a man who has paid his dues he was captured by the North Vietnamese and tortured, this man is a hero, how dare anyone , particularly someone who never served in any branch of the military question McCain?

How dare Susan Rice a woman stand up to McCain, even worse how dare an African America woman stand up to a true American war hero? Isn’t that what we are all led to believe ? John Sydney McCain is beyond reproach, right?, There is just one question I want to ask, What about all of the other warriors who have lost a limb, lost several limbs, or paid the ultimate price, do they get the same God like treatment that McCain has exploited exponentially for decades?

And did Jon McCain not tell the Vietnamese all that they needed to know? So what gives John McCain the right to say Susan Rice is not qualified, not bright, simply because she dared to stand up and speak her mind against a man whose time has come and gone?

After Petraeus testified McCain was embarrassed, but he hasn’t quit, he keeps digging, demanding that Ambassador Rice go on Television and apologise and state that she was wrong . Never mind that the information Susan Rice had was the information given her by the intelligence community, the intelligence Petraeus gave.

Essentially Petraeus who headed the CIA was not challenged , but Ambassador Rice should go on television to embarrass herself, this is the most disrespectful and downright cheeky piece of shit to come out of that old retard’s mouth.

Clearly John McCain still believes that they still own the plantation and Ambassador Rice is beholden to him. John McCain who barely completed the course of studies at the Naval Academy, and may have flunked out but given a pass because of who his father and grandfather was, has the nerve and the gall to refer to Dr, Rice as not bright, and unqualified for the job of Secretary of State.

Notice I haven’t mentioned Lindsay Graham, the other retard from South Carolina, I mean he is from South Carolina, who cares what he thinks? Graham and McCain have bandied together along with departing Senator from Connecticut, Joe Lieberman, the Democratic Party ‘s Benedict Arnold, another Connecticut native.

The trio created the impression that they were reasonable people who wanted to advance the debate, they turned out to be harsh and unreasonable critics of the Obama presidency, Lieberman will leave the senate and hopefully we won’t hear from him ever again, he however have refused to join the disrespectful and outrageous assault on Ambassador Rice.

The Republican Party which made John McCain relevant is no more, if John McCain want to stay in elected office he will have to keep up the outrage he is engaged in presently, or some loony will run against him to his right. This forces McCain to do and say outrageous things like the present outrage he is involved in.

He will have to continue to embarrass himself in order to be relevant, at least to his mind. In the end McCain becomes less and less relevant and is revealed to be nothing more than a pathetic insecure and irrelevant old man whose time has long passed.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE REPUBLICAN BRAND?

What’s wrong with the Republican brand? Most people whether they have been in the United States for generations or are recent arrivals have the singular goal of achieving economic success.

Isn’t that what the Republican Party’s message used to be? Small Government, less Regulation, God and Country, Unleashing the Free spirit of Individuals, Strong Defense, Personal Responsibility, so what went wrong? The messengers went wrong.

Many people voted and supported President Reagan not because he was next to God, as some Republicans will have you believe, but because he encapsulated within those characteristics a human component.

Ronald Reagan

A component which recognized that there needs to be revenue to run a country, there needs to be common sense regulations in place to safeguard the populace, and there needs to be an understanding that this is a nation of immigrants and as such there must be a release valve which allows people here undocumented a chance to come out of the shadows.

Reagan understood that there needed to be revenues, as such he raised taxes numerous times, republicans who use Reagan as the holy grail of conservatism, will not mention that he raised taxes exponentially.

Reagan understood that a nation of immigrants will invariably attract, well… immigrants, legal and illegal, so he granted unequivocal amnesty to those who were here living in the shadows. Republicans today do not talk about that aspect of Reagan-ism.

Those people were allowed to come out of the shadows and become regular tax-paying members of society. Many of those people, mostly men, were Jamaicans who had come here to work on Farms, to this day they are loyal Reaganites.

Cubans in Miami will also tell a similar tale, as to why they are loyal to the Republican Party. In fact, as it relates to the Jamaicans, the values once espoused by Republicans were the very same values they were raised to believe in, it was subsequently pretty easy for them to become loyal fans of Reagan.

This is something that the last standard-bearer of the Republican Party, Willard Mitt Romney simply did not get, and arguably still doesn’t get.

Mitt Romney.

In a conference call with fund-raisers and donors to his campaign, Mr. Romney said Wednesday afternoon that the president had followed the “old playbook” of using targeted initiatives to woo specific interest groups — “especially the African-American community, the Hispanic community and young people.” “In each case, they were very generous in what they gave to those groups,” Mr. Romney said, contrasting Mr. Obama’s strategy to his own of “talking about big issues for the whole country: military strategy, foreign policy, a strong economy, creating jobs and so forth.”

In other words, Romney believes giving college students a break, giving young women access to contraception, allowing dreamers a little breathing room from deportation a gift. Those things which Romney denounces as gifts are what most people see as good governance, government delivering services to the people it serves.

What this statement revealed was the deeper inner core of what Romney actually and truly believe, juxtapose that statement with what he said about the 47% we are made painfully aware how America dodged the bullet by not electing this guy.

The shocking tragedy inherent in Romney’s continued disdain for the electorate, is proof positive that he cares nothing about average Americans.

This is the same candidate who wanted to continue tax giveaways to the richest Americans, wanted to dramatically increase the budgetary allocation to the Military Industrial complex, even though some military leaders say they did not need it.

Romney made abundantly clear who he wanted to give gifts to, and it did not include the moochers who do not take responsibility for their own lives.

Romney’s statements are not in isolation however, his running mate Paul Ryan suggested that the reason President Obama won the election was because people voted.

Quote:”“What the president and his campaign excelled at doing is mobilizing turnout in their critical base areas, and they expanded the turnout above the norms,” he said. “They had record turnout in urban areas and all of our polling did not project that kind of turnout, and that’s why we thought we had a very good chance at winning this race going into election day(.“huffingtonpost.com)

In other words they lost the election because people voted.

The tone deafness of these people is amazing, these are the people who wanted to lead America, and in some way are still in leadership positions politically. That was not all Ryan had this to say about losing the very town in which he was born to his congressional challenger.

Quote:“When you join a national ticket for a party, you become more seen as a Republican guy than necessarily a Janesville guy,” he continued. “So I think my image, or the thought people had in their minds of me once I joined the Republican ticket, was more ‘Paul Ryan, Republican,’ than ‘Paul Ryan, Janesville guy.”(huffingtonpost.com)

Well you don’t say? So people saw Paul Ryan as a Republican in his hometown and as such he lost convincingly, yet the goodly Congressman/whiz-kid did not see their national defeat coming? some whiz-kid, some policy wonk.

The truth of the matter is that the Romney/Ryan ticket simply could not see the defeat coming, because they were locked away in the parallel universe of FOX misinformation, and racist talk radio which told them what they wanted to hear.

In fact they had people telling them they were winning the election by a landslide even the night before the elections, even though all of the polling data and other indicators were actually pointing to an Obama landslide.

The ideals of the republican party are still great ones, the problem is not the message, it rests with the messengers, who have become increasingly white, male, racist, unyielding , misogynistic, and dumb.

The Republican Party of white males are not going to really get the message of this election until the party suffers several more losses, it took several hundred years of telling themselves they are superior to others, one election cycle will not undo that misconception.
