appoint­ment of Carl Williams as Commissioner of Police, effec­tive September 15, 2014.

Bunting was this morn­ing for­mal­ly advised by the Police Service Commission and sub­se­quent­ly briefed the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Commissioner des­ig­nate Williams comes to the post with a track record of inno­va­tion and per­for­mance in a wide vari­ety of com­mand roles in the Jamaica Constabulary Force and is high­ly qual­i­fied aca­d­e­m­i­cal­ly, with a PhD in Criminal Justice, the Ministry said.

Williams is the found­ing direc­tor of Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) and the inno­va­tor respon­si­ble for con­cep­tu­al­iz­ing and devel­op­ing the Anti-Lottery Scam Task Force.

He led Jamaica’s anti-nar­cotics cam­paign from 2000 to 2004 with the suc­cess­ful pros­e­cu­tion and/​or extra­di­tion of a num­ber of major nar­cotics traffickers.
