Decision To Implement Selective Installation Of Meters, Is Common Council’s, We’re Told.

This morning I continued in my attempt to bring attention and parity to the unfair roll-out of the Pay-stations on Main street in the City of Poughkeepsie.

I called the Mayor’s office, a woman who said she was sitting in for the Mayor’s Secretary took my call, she was pleasant and helpful. I gave her the reason for my call and she promised she would have the relevant person return my call.

garbage strew 500 block of main street
garbage strewn 500 block of main street

About twenty minutes later I received a call from the City’s Administrator, Milo Bunyi. Mister Bunyi appeared concerned and empathetic with my arguments about the way the pay stations have been installed.

Much to my dismay the Administrator informed me that the decision to stop the installation of meters at Main and White was the decision of the Common Council. In fact he indicated that the Administration wanted to install more pay stations in another heavily used area, which would allow them to lower parking rates and the Council would have none of it.

It appears that politics is at play in matters as simple as where parking meters are placed.

The Idea of parking meters for revenue in Cities and towns is in no way a new or novel idea. The pay stations will not be removed by the City, let’s be reasonable . My contention is this, since the city has decided to implement a pay to park system, it should be done in a just and equitable manner.

In this picture we are looking East along Main street from the 500 Block, up to the 600 and beyond .One does not need to be a rocket scientist to understand what area has free parking . Clearly in the distance past the lights at Main and White there are vehicles parked freely . From the point of where the photograph was taken on the 500 Block there are no parked vehicles. The reason is that there are parking meters there.

The idea of selective placement of these pay stations, gives an unfair advantage to business owners in areas where there are no meters. I again call on the City to either purchase more meters and install them, or roll back the pay for park until this matter can be properly hashed out and re-implemented in an equitable and just fashion.

TWC “Enjoy Better” I Think Not

20140619_175028We subscribe to Time Warner Cable for our Business and Home . We hardly watch Television, so for both Accounts we asked for basic Cable. Subscribers of Time Warner Service in the Hudson Valley are familiar with the Triple Play . Phone , Internet and Television bundled together , Generally advertised for $33 per service. The total monthly cost being $99 plus Taxes. Of course the phone is a total waste of money these days, no one ever uses the phone in our home. The one in my Business is fast becoming obsolete also.

Of course every month the billed amount for the very same package increases, while Channels on it’s Cable Television surreptitiously disappears. A call to the Company generally elicits a packaged response ‚which goes something like this.

Oh, we are sorry the Channels you referenced shouldn’t have been a part of your package to begin with”.

The same thievery is part of Time Warner’s argument when you sign up and ask for a fixed IP Address. You pay for a fixed IP and is given a Dynamic IP Address. Their arguments are always the same it’s the fault of the Sales-person who took the order. Never mind that the Sales-people work for Time Warner Cable. They never accept responsibility.

Yesterday Wednesday June 18th I arrived at work , of course it’s World Cup Soccer time so I had 3 Televisions on ESPN so customers who are interested in the Soccer may watch the game if they chose to. I have had ESPN as a part of my basic Cable package for years, on both accounts. Sometime in the early afternoon the cable froze and eventually all screens went black . I waited believing that something was wrong with the feed and it would be restored in due time. After a while I realized that wasn’t happening, so I called Time Warner.

The Customer Service Rep on the line commenced to tell me “Oh we’ ” I cut him off,” whatever you do , do not tell me ESPN was not a part of my package”!! He went on I’m sorry sir that is a fact.

I blew a fuse, are you kidding me I have had the service for years. If ESPN is not a part of it why did you not take it from the time you took all the other channels, why wait for the World Cup, the most watched event?

He proceeded to go around in circles after I lambasted him and his Company for being deceptive, unscrupulous and dishonest . I told him that straight away, I would be cancelling both accounts and going with Fios or Optimum TV, their competition, then I hung up the phone.

Thursday morning I arrived at work and for good measure I turned the Televisions on to ESPN channel 21 and what do you know , ESPN was back up and running.

Time Warner has been involved in these deceptive and unscrupulous practices for years. In fact they have lost a big part of their market share. They don’t even bother to market the triple play anymore . More and more subscribers of Cable TV are looking elsewhere for service. The aforementioned two are competent alternative providers as well as Direct TV.

Time Warner unscrupulous practices are well documented with customers as far as California complaining of the Company’s unscrupulous bait and switch and other nefarious practices.http://forums.timewarnercable.com/t5/Channels-and-Programming/Enjoy-Better-NOT/td‑p/11599

Time Warner’s jingle ask customers to “Enjoy better” , you take a gamble on them, you are gauranted worse. I will still dump the Company, if for nothing more that its unscrupulous attempt to get me to pay for a channel I had for years all because it’s being heavily watched. This was not my first bad experience with the Company, this time I have had enough. The Company’s efforts to weasel a few dollars out of me , like a common street thug ‚will result in two lost accounts.

Soon many more customers will catch on and do the same.

Poughkeepsie Government Working For Us

common council meeting in session
common council meeting in session

For the first time this evening I got involved in the muck of local politics. I joined many other business owners

lower main by the Hudson , no pay stations
lower main by the Hudson , no pay stations

who are less than pleased with the way the new Parking

pay stations were shoved down our throats

Literally every business owner who testified, yours truly included, pointed to precipitous drop-offs in business since the new Pay stations were installed.

Many also pointed to the fact that the pay stations are notably absent from the circle at the bottom of main street close to the Hudson River. They argued there are businesses people in that area that are friendly with people of power in City Hall. This Blogger is unable to substantiate those claims . What I know is that there are no pay stations in that Area . Which is closer to where the Mayor’s father has his business.

Coincidence ? Maybe , but it smells to high heaven. Restaurant owners are complaining they will be forced to lay off workers . They complain of what they characterize as a ticketing blitz underway. I thought it was really ironic that we the business owners who pay the taxes to hire these cops and ticket agents, are unable to make a living because they write tickets which keeps our customers away .

Maybe it’s not such a bad idea if we cannot afford the taxes, maybe then they may be forced to cut some of the dead-wood.

Just maybe.

Tkazyik Killing Poughkeepsie’s Rebirth

Parking Meter Information

500 to 600 Block on a Friday
500 to 600 Block on a Friday

The City of Poughkeepsie began the installation of multi-space parking meters on Thursday, June 5th.

John C. Tkazyik Poughkeepsie, Mayor
John C. Tkazyik Poughkeepsie, Mayor

Installation will be completed by Monday, June 9th and enforcement will begin Tuesday, June 10th. On-street parking signs will be changed directing motorists to pay the parking meter and display the receipt on the dashboard.

Enforcement will be Monday through Saturday 8:00am to 6:00pm. The parking rate is .25₵ per 10 minutes for a maximum 2 hour period.

Any questions regarding parking meters should be directed to the City of Poughkeepsie Parking Department at 845−451−4120. http://www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com/departments/dpw/parking

What this communiqué does not do is make allocation for business-owners who need to park daily , some for up to 12 or more hours per day.

At the stated rate of 25c per 10 minutes , business owners will be forced to fork out $1.50 per hour . A whopping $18.00 for a 12 hour work day. This translates into a $108 for a 6 day work week . In addition to that humongous burdensome and unconscionable tax, missing a minute of feeding those shiny new parking stations will incur hefty fines through the ticketing system. The ever available Meter Maids are already hovering around the meters like desert Buzzards waiting for an injured animal’s demise.

I called the Parking Department identified myself and sought clarification from a woman who identified herself as Darlene, on what business-owners should do with their cars after the 2 hour maximum allowed. She claimed she had no idea why the Parking Department’s phone number was put on the site. She told me the decision was made by the big-wigs . I told her I am not concerned about big-wigs in Poughkeepsie, she promptly hung up the phone. I called back just to make sure I was not mistaken and she hung up again. I guess my voice was not Caucasian enough.

My next call was to City Hall. The Mayor’s voice came on reading off a menu of extensions for the various Departments of city Government. The Mayor’s extension was the last, extension (6001 produced a curt voice mail, “This mail-box is full, goodbye. That’s our Government working for us!!

running through the city was a good idea.

Result of diversification
Result of diversification

The Main Mall was an outdoor pedestrian shopping plaza in downtown Poughkeepsie, New York, which was in existence from 1973 until 2001. An urban renewal project designed with the intention of stopping the decline of the central business district of downtown Poughkeepsie, the mall was created by blocking off a section of Main Street (from Market to Catherine/Academy Streets) to automobile traffic. The growth of Poughkeepsie’s immediate suburbs, along with the decline of the City of Poughkeepsie, doomed the project not long after its construction. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Mall.

I started a small business in the city just before the time when the decision was taken to reopen Main street. Excellence Barbers was born at 537 Main street. The idea was to bring a well run professional Barber-shop to the neighborhood. I got the idea after moving to Poughkeepsie in 1998 and received less than stellar service in that Industry. I could not venture into anything more adventurous because of lack of resources. Rental was affordable though , there simply were no legitimate businesses in my neck of the woods. I signed a 10-year Lease with a monthly rental of $350 . Had I pushed the Land Lord harder I probably could have gotten the premises for less. There were no takers for commercial space in 2001.

Most of the Barber shops then were mere fronts for other illegal activities . Going to the Barbers was an adventure I wanted to change that. I interviewed a group of men and opened my shop then. I had no idea how to cut a strand of hair so I totally depended on the professionalism of the people I hired. Despite the fact most of these men were Masters Barbers , I found out pretty soon this was not the best Idea I could have come up with for Poughkeepsie.I quickly found out that though there was adequate potential for growth , most of the men were not prepared to go about earning a living the old fashioned way.

The process of diversification began in earnest soon after.

new pay station

The city then was a cesspool of drug activity, shootings were almost a daily occurrence. Drug dealers peddled their wares openly in groups, sometimes as many as ten or more on each corner. I made it known I wanted no drug dealing in front of my business-place. One morning as I stopped by to open the Barber shop before leaving for my job a group of about 10 men stopped by. Some openly displayed guns . They bragged that they were selling drugs there for years and no one was going to stop them. I watched and assessed the situation.I figured if those punks were going to kill me they would not have wasted all that time with bravado. I told them to stay put I would be right back . On my return about 10 minutes later, not a single man could be found on the block. I haven’t had any problem since.

Hassle free shopping town of Poughkeepsie
Hassle free shopping town of Poughkeepsie

City Detectives arrived a little later , they asked that I allow them to handle things . I told them if what I witnessed with the drug dealing and open display of illegal guns was their way of handling things I would have to decline their offer. One African-American Cop was not particularly pleased with that statement, he never spoke to me after that. Big deal, I later learned he wasn’t exactly a pristine cop.

The City has recorded a slow and a painstaking climb out of that abyss of drug, prostitution and murder. It is by no means where it should be. With the large influx of Mexican and South American Immigrants, many of whom have started businesses of their own, the city has seen a marked Renaissance however. The Town of Poughkeepsie has in the meantime blossomed into a Mecca for shopping and dining. Every Effort should be made to encourage businesses to stay in the City. There is nothing offered here which cannot be sourced in the Town. Shoppers will simply shop and receive their services in the Town where parking is free and plentiful. By the time The big-wigs figure this out we will all be out of business as those business people were decades ago.

Lets Just Cool It For A Minute

Tracy Morgan and Kevin Roper
Tracy Morgan and Kevin Roper

Truck Driver Kevin Roper 35 employed to Mega Company Walmart appeared in a Middlesex County Court House Wednesday June 11th. Mister Roper plead not guilty to vehicular homicide and assault by Auto.

Roper, the Walmart truck driver involved in the New Jersey Turnpike car accident Saturday morning that claimed the life of one person and critically injured four others, including comedian Tracy Morgan, has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide and assault by auto. He remains free on $50,000 bail. No new court appearance was scheduled. Middlesex County prosecutors accuse Roper, 35, of not sleeping for 24 hours prior to the crash. He turned himself in to police immediately after the accident and has been placed on administrative leave by Walmart. The company has vowed “to take full responsibility” for the accident if it’s proved that Roper caused it. http://gma.yahoo.com/tracy-morgan-crash-walmart-trucker-kevin-roper-pleads-195936516 – abc-news-celebrities.html

Laws governing Truckers are strict these days, in fact driving without adequate sleep is tantamount to driving while intoxicated . It is tragic when members of the travelling public are injured or killed.. We pray for the family of the deceased as well as those injured, including Tracy Morgan 45, who continue to battle for life in a New Jersey Hospital.

Mister Roper is alleged to have bragged in a tweet quote: Trying to win more than lose, driving trucks for a living, move or get hit! #Walmart.

This has set off a firestorm of hatred of mister Roper in the Main stream Media .

Roper appearing in a New Jersey court room.
Roper appearing in a New Jersey court room.

Really?

Are we going to condemn a man for a tweet he made which had nothing to do with the crash? Does anyone believe this driver willfully crashed his rig into the vehicle transporting Tracy Morgan and others?

Does that tweet mean mister Roper is a maniac who was a ticking time bomb waiting to take someone’s life? So far there is no evidence of that. What we have is a hard working man trying to earn a living. Sure he needs to face the Courts , that’s where innocence and guilt are decide.

In fact Fox news reports .Walmart released this statement.

With regards to news reports that suggest Mr. Roper was working for 24 hours, it is our belief that Mr. Roper was operating within the federal hours of service regulations. The details are the subject of the ongoing investigation and we are cooperating fully with the appropriate law enforcement agencies. The investigation is ongoing and unfortunately we can’t comment further on the specifics.

Federal law requires drivers to work no more than 14 hours for any shift and 11 hours of driving.”

We simply have not reached that stage where an informed conclusion can be arrived at. This is not the case of a drug dealer firing a weapon, hitting an innocent bystander. What we have it seem, is a hard working man who is involved in an automobile crash. It behooves everyone including those in the Media to take a step back and let the system play out before they condemn this man to be stoned to death.

As users of the road we should be careful how we react in condemning others. We never know when we may be involved in a crash or accident, finding ourselves accused of vehicular homicide.

CANTOR FALLS ON OWN SWORD

Cantor concedes defeat
Cantor concedes defeat

Virginia Congressman from the 7 Congressional District Eric Cantor has suffered a stunning primary defeat at the hand of Dave Bratt. Without belaboring the point of Cantor’s defeat , it bears mentioning that Cantor became a victim of his own conspiracy.

Cantor was one of the conspirators who gathered in a secret location in Washington DC the very night Barack Obama was celebrating his inauguration.

Robert Draper’s much-discussed and heavily-reported new book, “Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives.”

According to Draper, the guest list that night (which was just over 15 people in total) included Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, several years removed from his presidential campaign, and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith. Notably absent were Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R‑Ky.) and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R‑Ohio) — who, Draper writes, had an acrimonious relationship with Luntz.

Robert Draper Book: GOP’s Anti-Obama Campaign Started Night Of Inauguration

Republicans had no interest in America, what they cared about was Party over Country . Their singular goal is to maintain power at all cost . They were determined that Obama would not be allowed to Govern. The acrimony and rancor which characterized the political environment in Washington DC since the President took office was, and still is the strategy of the Republican Party.

Their goal is to transfer wealth from the 99% of Americans to the wealthiest 1%. To do that they have to maintain power at all cost. Eric Cantor was a darling of the T‑Party , the front group of Charles and David Koch, Billionaire Industrialists.

Gerrymandered Districts created by Republicans to ensure safe re-election for their incumbents, actually create a bunch of hardened overzealous ideologues like Dave Bratt. In essence Eric Cantor the right wing hard-ass,eventually was not hard-ass enough, he fell on his own sword.

Washington Reels As House’s Eric Cantor Loses To Tea Party Challenger

Cantor concedes to Brat
Cantor concedes to Brat

In a shocking political defeat guaranteed to upend Republican Party politics, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia lost his primary election Tuesday to a tea party newcomer who hammered the No. 2 leader on immigration reform. It was the first downfall of a congressional leader in a generation.

Establishment Washington reeled from the moment the polls closed as Cantor, the ambitious leader with his sights on becoming the next House speaker, trailed Dave Brat, a local college professor who rustled for tea party support at a time when GOP leaders elsewhere have succeeded in halting the ascent of hard-right candidates.

In the end, Brat claimed an easy victory over the seven-term incumbent in the Richmond-area district.

Serving as the 7th District congressman and having the privilege to be the majority leader has been one of the highest honors of my life,” said Cantor, his wife, Diana, at his side.

The outcome was certain to not only ignite a leadership battle among the Republican majority in the House, but also to send a shudder though rank-and-file lawmakers who may become less willing to stray from tea party orthodoxy, particularly on the still looming debate over immigration reform.

This stunning news could be the first shot in an all-out war between the establishment and tea party over leadership control,” said GOP political strategist Ron Bonjean, a former top aide to Republican leadership. http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/politicsnow/la-na-pn-cantor-loses-to-tea-party-challenger-20140610-story.html

KKK-rallyThe Ku Klux Klan plans to begin military-style combat training under the direction of military troops returning home from overseas deployments, according to a Barcroft Media report.

The notorious hate group has been attempting to recruit new members – children, in particular – in recent months, and the Loyal White Knights faction has begun preparations for a long-awaited race war.

We’re going to do something a little different for probably the next couple of years to try to get our men and women ready for the upcoming battle that we’re about to take upon us, and this is something that no Klan has ever done and we’re going to start it,” said one Klan leader during a rally in Parkersburg, West Virginia. “All our boys are finally coming back home from the military, which is good, and we’re getting a lot more military members to join.”

The boy’s mother said she believes black and Hispanic students take drugs from their parents and sell them at her son’s school.

Their parents are so worried about doing drugs than providing for their own children, that’s what I think,” said the woman, who was wearing full Klan regalia like her husband and two sons.

Barcroft reported that Klan leaders claim existing members serving in the military will begin training other members in armed combat, hand-to-hand combat, and survival skills.

The group, which has an estimated 6,500 members, has never before trained its members in combat tactics.

We got police officers in the Klan, we got lawyers, we got doctors – your next-door neighbor could be in the Klan, and you’d never know it,” said James Moore, grand dragon for Virginia.

Klan expert Brian Levin said the biggest threat comes from individual members trying to make a name for themselves, rather than an army affiliated with the hate group.

This is something we’ve seen throughout recent decades, where the Klan has gone through cycles, where they’ve armed themselves, gotten in trouble, then mellowed out and then armed themselves again,” Levin said.

He said Klan members hope to signal their social relevance by arming themselves and warning of racial unrest.

The ultimate goal for myself is to have our membership get to the point where we can affect change through the political system,” said one Klan official. “Right now, our numbers aren’t quite good enough.”

But members are confident their message will attract new followers.

A Tale Of Two Cities, (not) By Charles Dickens

In my last Blog I highlighted the disparity in the way the city of Poughkeepsie was being run. I talked about the lack of Sanitation services in some parts of the city while other parts are kept in pristine condition. I also

garbage strewn streets derelict buildings and crime is a staple on the 500 block
garbage strewn streets, derelict buildings and crime are staples on the 500 block

made clear that the Mayor needs to do a better job as all residents of the City deserve the same treatment.

I must also add that it is the responsibility or residents to take care of their community. Eating from a paper plate and then simply dropping it on the sidewalk after finishing the meal is common sight here. The notion of walking and eating a full meal is probably an alien concept to some of you , not so here. In some instances pizza boxes are strewn on the sidewalk, left exactly where the pizza ran out or where the wind discarded it .

The difference in the life of the city is very sharp. Poverty, drugs , violence, guns and solid middle class life coexist together. Yet as if miles apart. It occurred to me today as I had brunch with my wife, that at the risk of sounding arrogant or grand, life is largely dependent on the choices we make. We can decide to complain about the things which are wrong in our lives. Just how poor we are, just how badly we have been treated, or we may use those adversities as catalysts to empower ourselves.

Our city is infested with drug users and pushers. A few days ago a young man Shiquan M. Krouser, 27, was shot and killed by 1400949637000-db-shooting-0514-3586Police. It is alleged that he attacked and injured a female police officer. Police responded to a report of a man who was “dusted up” — high on angel dust or PCP — “causing a disturbance, stopping cars, yelling and screaming,” at the intersection of Main and Academy streets early Saturday morning, “all they (officers) know is the person they encountered,” Chief Ron Knapp said. http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/story/news/crime/2014/05/27/police-naacp-investigate-shooting/9647175/

20140608_135925One could argue that the challenges facing the City Of Poughkeepsie are no different than any other city. There may be some element of truth to that.

I believe however, that in a city this small , the disparity is pretty wide. Walk the streets of this city and you get a feel for what I’m talking about. Drugs can be sourced on almost every corner. Prostitutes roam the streets night and day 20140608_142939and shootings are never far away.

Inside the Shadows Restaurant the Sunday afternoon crowd enjoyed fine dining in a comfortable and elegant atmosphere. It does seem we chose to live the way we live .20140608_142949 We are not bound by our present circumstance. How we react to adversities will impact what happens to us going forward. Truly Poughkeepsie is a lot like other American cities, she has some challenges not found in other cities however. Residents of this Mid ‑Hudson City can do better to remove this stigma that our city is just a drug town where people go to get high, or as one critic told me once ” a place where old people retire” .

This is a city where one is never far from the Hudson River. The newly renovated Walk-way over the Hudson is one of America’s newest and most scenic National Parks. We have two fabulous Colleges here, State of the Art Hospitals and great dining. This little City on the Hudson can be a great place to live, it all depends on we the people.

Welcome To Poughkeepsie

IMG_0738City of Poughkeepsie, Population roughly 20,000. Chief Executive, ®Mayor John Tkazyik.

The City of Poughkeepsie is inviting all property owners who own a property classified as “411” to explore the option of having the Sanitation Department collect refuse. We would like for you to compare your current sanitation rates with the City of Poughkeepsie’s rates. The cost of refuse pickup will be based on an assessment of the property done by the Department of Public Works. If you would like to set up an appointment please contact DPW at (845) 451‑4111. http://www.cityofpoughkeepsie.com/

What the city’s Mayor and Website does not tell you is that these very property owners who own slightly larger Rental properties enjoyed Garbage pickup as a function of the taxes they pay like other City Residents. These Property owners were forced to pay to have garbage from their properties picked up by a Local Garbage company Royal Carting.

That arrangement literally punishes those with a rental property with four or more Rental apartments. It’s a kind of discriminatory punishment of residents who have attained a degree of success. This is nothing new however under this Mayor, there is a certain type of selective dispensation of scarce resources in this not so large city. Main street, the main artery of the commercial district is clean and well maintained . In the section from Academy down to the River. This section largely has white owned businesses . 20140606_112715

20140606_112740The section from Academy heading East to the City limits , seldom sees a street-cleaning vehicle. In many instances there are shrubs growing out of the sidewalks. For full disclosure I have owned and operated a Business on the latter part of Main Street for 13 years. I have spoken to the Mayor about the way the Sanitation Department has gone about it’s functions and he has responded swiftly. However things go right back to the way they were the next day. This section is largely populated with Black and Mexican businesses.

Work crews have been busy installing new gas lines on the southern side of main street for months now . Residents have been forced to deal with traffic snarls. Business owners have complained of drastic reduction in business as a result. Additionally, dust and noise pollution from the heavy equipment adds to the misery level. Yet right on cue the City is busy having new parking meters installed for the first time on the eastern corridor of Main street.

Most cities do have parking meters. The problem here in Poughkeepsie is that while the Mayor and his Administration gives the average resident of the City less for his tax Dollar, large companies seem to be doing really well under his stewardship. If the Mayor wants to be a Mayor for all residents of the City, he must ensure adequate and equitable dispensation of services for tax-payers funds. He cannot reasonably ask for more, even as he gives less and less.

But then again the Mayor is already seeking higher office. Business owners like myself will be forced to feed these Meters for the 11 or 12 hours we are open each day. Hopefully the Mayor will see fit to make sure that the streets are swept and the putrid sewer odor in some areas are dealt with.

Moncton Shooting: City On Lockdown During Manhunt

_75330242_moncton4The Canadian city of Moncton remains on lockdown as authorities hunt for a man accused of shooting five police officers, killing three, on Wednesday.

Officials say the suspect, Justin Bourque, 24, was spotted multiple times early on Thursday morning. They have warned people to stay inside and lock their doors.

One of the wounded Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has been released from hospital, and one remains in hospital in stable condition. It is the deadliest attack on the country’s police force since four officers were killed by a gunman on a farm in the western Canadian province of Alberta in 2005.

Complete investigation’

Police said on Wednesday they still did not know where Mr Bourque was, but he was armed and dangerous. RCMP Supt Marlene Snowman warned that the suspect was armed with high-powered firearms.

He’s not known to us, he’s a young person,” she said. “We’re doing a complete investigation to learn as much as we can about him, about his history, what may have_75332598_moncton5 sparked this.”

Supt Snowman said the RCMP was thankful for all the messages of support the force had received since the shooting.

Our guys and gals are doing the very very best they possibly can and they have done exactly that in the past day,” she said.

Police forces from around and outside the province of New Brunswick were contributing to the search, as well as special air support and canine search teams.

New Brunswick Premier David Alward said he felt “incredible grief” stemming from the incident.

The officers were shot while responding to a report of an armed man at the north-west side of the town at about 20:00 local time (23:00 GMT) on Wednesday.

We opened up the windows in the family room and there he was going across through the back with this rifle on his shoulder,” witness Joan MacAlpine-Stiles told Canadian media.

I said, ‘Oh my God, there he is with camouflage and the headband and a gun, and it looked like a bow he had with him.“http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-27721569

CHOSE WISELY WHOM YE WILL SERVE

John_Calvin
John_Calvin

Events occur in our lives as direct and indirect consequence of our actions.

If this is true, how do we square that fact with the doctrine of Pre-Ordination?

Pre-ordination (theology) being determined in advance; especially the doctrine (usually associated with Calvin) that God has foreordained every event throughout eternity (including the final salvation of mankind).

John Calvin (FrenchJean Calvin French pronunciation: [ʒɑ̃ kalvɛ̃], born Jehan Cauvin: 10 July 1509 – 27 May 1564) was an influential French theologian and pastor during the Protestant ReformationCalvin was influenced by the Augustinian tradition, which led him to expound the doctrine of predestination and the absolute sovereignty of God in salvation of the human soul from death and eternal damnation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_calvin images (56)

If however we accept the Doctrine of Pre-ordination, we cannot then believe that as humans we are free-will beings. Both concepts are antithetical to each other, both concepts cannot be correct. If our every actions are pre-determined by God, then we are mere robotic creatures fulfilling a master plan over which we have no control.

Arguably the two competing principles are easy to contemplate. We are free to change our course of action at any moment. If the principle of pre-ordination is to be believed we would have to presume that whatever we chose, to do ‚whenever we chose to do them, are not our actions but that of a God who micro-manages us. This principle is synonymous to a paper-boat on a river tossed around by the currents, it’s final destination predetermined by the destination of that River, or some thicket in which it is caught.

The fact is , God made us intelligent beings , he gave us free will. We have the option to serve ourselves and by extension the Devil. We also have the option of giving him control over our lives guaranteeing our Salvation . The choice is mine, the choice is yours , chose wisely this day whom ye will serve. Joshau 24: 15.

Cowardly Thugs

Kyle Howell 2 years old
Kyle Howell 20 years old

Officer Vincent LoGiudice appeared in Nassau County Court, where a grand jury indictment was unsealed, charging him with two felony counts of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault in the April 25 beating of Kyle Howell, 20. Prosecutors said the officer used excessive force as he and his partner were attempting to arrest Howell. LoGiudice was released on his own recognizance by Nassau County Court Judge Christopher Quinn. He faces a maximum of 7 years in prison if convicted of the top charge. He is due back in court on July 2. LoGiudice, 34, has been suspended without pay after an investigation conducted by the department’s internal affairs unit in conjunction with the Nassau district attorney’s office, sources said Tuesday. Police allege in court documents they were trying to stop Howell from swallowing a bag of marijuana, and that he kicked and punched police.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TehH_p7XGg

The only problem with that story is that the video evidence differs dramatically from the

cowardly cop LoGiudice
cowardly cop LoGiudice

Police account . The cop was seen running back to the front of the car after he was headed in the direction of the rear of the car. How could this coward claim he saw him swallowing anything when he was at the rear of the car? The video seem to suggest that Howell said something to the cop which he though was out of line. Heaven forbid someone talk back to one of these earthly Gods. In the video LoGiudice was seen running back to where Howell was sitting and in a fit download (6)of rage rained blows all over the young man. Even if Howell had marijuana he did not commit himself against these lunatic and moronic cops. What is the penalty for possession of a bag of Marijuana?

To add insult to injury hundreds of these cowardly thugs were out in force supported by their closeted bigoted friends and neighbors denouncing the District Attorney for doing her job, which was to charge these two cowards with felony assault. The purpose of the mob of cops at the Court-House had nothing to do with supporting this coward. They fundamentally believe they are above the law. They believe they should not be held accountable for assaulting anyone and they damn sure believe they should never be questioned or held accountable for seriously assaulting a 20 year-old African American male. What this bunch of bigoted thugs succeeded in doing was showing the world the contempt in which they hold the very public they are sworn to protect. The very people who pay their elegant salaries, all $145,900 a year of it, allowing them to live on Long Island . Howell, who was arrested on April 25, had surgery to repair an injured eye he suffered during the incident. He said Tuesday he no longer trusts police officers. The Police Union Boss believes this Cop is the best they have on Long Island. I believe that statement should send shivers down the spine of everyone living and driving through that part of New York. That statement however supports this Article. They are common thugs.

No bag of marijuana or any other substance gives a Cop the right to pummel a member of the public this way. Even if they suspected that Howell was swallowing the contraband there are avenues in law which allows for a conviction through testing. If a conviction was that important to them. The fact of the matter is these thug-cops wanted to administer a beating to someone they believe beneath them. Every single cop and supporter who showed up in support of that beating is a disgrace and a blight to the badge they wear, but more-so they are a disgusting blight on the human race.

Howell was charged with assaulting two police officers, witness tampering and several other charges. All the charges were dropped last month after a judge reviewed the video.“I am very grateful that I have the video to prove my innocence,” Howell said last month. “Without the video, we would have no voice,” his mother, Joan Howell, said. “If there was no video, we would not be here today.”Even with the video, the police union and LoGiudice’s attorney warned against jumping to conclusions in the case.

Not only were these criminal cops prepared to beat this young man into a pulp, they wanted to send him to prison for a long time for getting beaten by them. As far as their Union and Attorneys are concerned the video evidence should not be trusted. Obviously the public is too stupid to figure out what they saw with their own eyes. They on the other hand, are allowed to use the grainiest videos to convict suspects all the time, particularly black suspects.

How many African-Americans are locked up in Jails and Prisons all across America on trumped-up charges and fabricated evidence? Every year scores of people are released from Prison because Cops and Prosecutors , lie, fabricate or withhold evidence resulting in serious Prison time for innocent citizens. To compound that problem Courts are extremely reluctant to revisit decided cases, even when there are strong evidence of Prosecutorial impropriety. The Nassau County DA on the dismissal of the concocted charges, should have charged them with filing false reports. In cases like these these cops should feel the full force of the laws. Police officers are paid to protect us, they are not above the laws.

I’m Not Strong

MAB

People tell me “Mike you are so strong, I don’t know what I would do if I lost one of my kids”.

To begin with they don’t know just far off-base they are regarding what they perceive to be strength. On the question of not knowing what to do, they hit a home-run. Neither do I !

My family and I are immensely blessed and indeed honored at the tremendous outpouring of love and prayers we received from friends near and far, during this most traumatic period in our lives. For that we are eternally grateful and forever in your debt. Never in my wildest dreams did I contemplate the possibility of an event of this magnitude.

Naïveté? .….…Maybe.

Feeling entitled or exempt? .….….. No!

The hardest thing for me is trying to come to terms that my son is no longer here, isn’t coming home anymore, is dead. That word dead is the most difficult for me to process, the finality of that word forces me into mental retreat.

my baby
my baby

I am unsure how others experiencing this type of trauma deal with getting around that obstacle. Coming to terms with the finality of the word “dead”. Accepting that a loved-one has died is terribly difficult. Accepting that your child is never coming home, is unimaginably and indescribably horrific. How could this happen ? “Why my child” ? I ask myself a thousand times , still I am no nearer an answer than when I asked the first time. This Summer, College kids all across America are returning home to spend time with their families. Not so for our family.

996740_777992545549806_373206732_nTry as I may , I cannot shake the feeling of victim-hood which has plagued me since April 7th 2014. I feel singled out, I have certainly had more than my share of tragedies. I wonder what the pawns on a chess-boards feel if they had feelings? I feel caught between two powerful competing powers, in a battle which has precious little to do with me. I feel I am mere collateral damage. I know I will draw fire from some Religious quarters for daring to speak this way. Am I selfish to pine over the loss of my son, despite having more sons? Am I being disloyal to my family for the deep, dark grief I feel for this, my child? If so how does :Luke 15:4 apply

Jesus asked ‚“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it” ?

In the parable Jesus told of the prodigal son, did the father not still have a son at home ? : Luke 15 :20. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.

Luke 15: 22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

Do these Scriptures apply The prodigal son did return. The missing Sheep is likely to be found. My son is never coming home. I cry every single day , so too does my wife. In the beginning I felt sorry for my son. I wondered , did he hurt in the process leading to his passing ? Did he lay there thinking “my dad will come get me”, throughout his short life he thought his dad could always make things right.

As much as I cry wondering about that, I feel sorry for my wife and his mom. I feel sorry for his brother we all lost a great Guy. I grieve for the rest of my family and his friends. But most of all I feel sorry for me. I lost a part of me that can never be1970386_821510291198031_880089478_n replaced, the void left can never be filled. Nothing can ever be the way they were. My world is forever changed , how I move forward is all up in the air. There are times when I wonder if I ever will, or whether I even want to.

$30m Gun Seizures

AN ESTIMATED $30 million worth of guns and ammunition have been taken off the streets of Jamaica since the start of the year.

Police data from January 1 to May 24, this year, has shown that 250 firearms and 3,417 rounds of ammunition have been recovered.

And on Thursday of this week, the cops confirmed that another nine guns and more than 1,000 rounds were seized in St Catherine.

A breakdown of the guns confiscated, as indicated by the police statistics, showed that 154 pistols and 37 revolvers were taken off the streets.http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20140531/lead/lead1.html

Recently Clippers owner Donald Sterling made some rather offensive and neanderthal comments in a telephone conversation with a young lady said to be his former girlfriend. Sterling was unaware he was being recorded, the comments attributed to him were probably the best indication of his feelings for African-Americans. The National Basket-Ball Association, through it’s Commissioner, acted swiftly to ban Sterling from the game for life, and is actively taking steps to force mister Sterling to sell his stake in the Team which he owns with his estranged wife.

This is not the first time we have seen where racist comments have evoked swift responses . Donald Imus “nappy headed hoes” comment cost him his job. Rick Santorum “bla people” comment may have done him in 2012. Former Virginia Senator George Allen may have had his Presidential aspirations curtailed by his “Macaca“comment while on the stump. There are no shortage of instances where it has become clear that certain language will no longer be tolerated against others.

The Rastafari entertainer expressed her disapproval of the homosexual lifestyle at last year’s Independence Grand Gala celebrations in August which prompted culture minister Lisa Hanna to express regret at the utterances. In her response, Ifrica’s management team released a statement which, in part, read: “Queen Ifrica expresses that, while she remains grounded in her morals which espouses heterosexuality, she wants to make it abundantly and emphatically clear that she does not condone nor has ever supported or advocated violence against any group or community, whether implicitly or explicitly.”.http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/Gays— block— Queen— Ifrica— _16735516

Ifrica was pulled as headliner at Amazura Concert Hall in Queens, New York, on May 24th due to mounting pressure from the gay community. Six other Jamaican female acts are also booked to perform. A 200-strong protest was held outside the club. The organisers called for a halt of the ‘Invasion of the Queens’ show, which they said contributes to violence against lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals and transgenders. According the New York Daily News, the protest is being led by openly gay City Councilman Daniel Dromm. “We don’t need homophobic people like her coming to Queens to spread their message of hate,” he was quoted as saying.

As we move to remove hatred and bigotry from our national discourse and ultimately our lives, do we give up our right of dissent? Are we bigots to be ostracized because we do not agree with someone else? Should Donald Sterling be forced out of the NBA because of his comments or should the League institute a punishment which includes tolerance training as suggested by Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban? Do we give up our God given right to free speech in order to get along?

In the end, what about forgiveness and redemption? What about second chances, are we so wounded and scarred that it has become one and done? What would Jesus do? He would be forgiving ! He would not ostracize Donald Sterling ‚neither would he support killing the career of Ventrice Morgan simply because she dared to dissent.

REGGAE entertainer Queen Ifrica has been pulled as headliner at Amazura Concert Hall in Queens, New York, tonight, due to mounting pressure from the gay community. Six other Jamaican female acts are also booked to perform.

She is not performing… everyone else will. The show will go on though,” John Rios, manager of Amazura Concert Hall, told the Jamaica Observer. The manager said his mega club is opened to everyone as “there’s no discrimination”. “We’re not prejudiced against anyone. I welcome the gay community and we get along with everybody,” he said. Yesterday, a 200-strong protest was held outside the club.

This is not the first time that the Jamaican act has felt the wrath of the gay community. Last August, Ifrica was pulled from the line-up of Rastafest in Canada following protests by the gay community there. As well, Buju Banton, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence in an American prison on drug-related charges, had his concerts repeatedly cancelled due to gay protests throughout the United States.http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/Gays-block-Queen-Ifrica-_16735516

Mark Cuban Makes Bold Statements

Dallas Mevericks Owner Mark Cuban is now under the microscope for making the following statements. But is it fair to Cuban , the attention he is getting for making these comments, are we at a point where we cannot discuss ideas and say what we feel without being maligned?

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, attempting to make a nuanced point about society’s challenges dealing with racism, acknowledged having his own “prejudices and bigotries” during an interview with Inc. magazine that has gone viral.

In this day and age, this country has really come a long way putting any type of bigotry behind us, regardless of who it’s toward,” Cuban said Wednesday. “We’ve come a long way, and with that progress comes a price. We’re a lot more vigilant and we’re a lot less tolerant of different views, and it’s not necessarily easy for everybody to adapt or evolve.

I mean, we’re all prejudiced in one way or another. If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it’s late at night, I’m walking to the other side of the street. And if on that side of the street, there’s a guy that has tattoos all over his face — white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere — I’m walking back to the other side of the street. And the list goes on of stereotypes that we all live up to and are fearful of. So in my businesses, I try not to be hypocritical. I know that I’m not perfect. I know that I live in a glass house, and it’s not appropriate for me to throw stones.”

Cuban’s comments come at a particularly sensitive time for the NBA, which is the midst of trying to force Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling to sell his team after he made racially charged comments on an audiotape. Sterling was banned for life and fined $2.5 million by NBA commissioner Adam Silver after the release of a TMZ recording, in which he told a female friend, V. Stiviano, not to bring black people to Clippers games.

On Monday, Sterling was charged with damaging the league with his racist comments, and has until Tuesday to respond to the charge. If Sterling does not respond by then, that would be grounds for termination. Silver’s decision of a lifetime ban for Sterling is subject to a vote by NBA owners on June, with the commissioner needing three-quarters of the vote to enforce his decision.

Speaking at the annual GrowCo convention, hosted by Inc. magazine, on Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee, Cuban said he knows how he’ll vote but isn’t ready to comment on it.

There’s no law against stupid,” Cuban said when asked how to keep bigotry out of the NBA, according to the Tennessean. “I’m the one guy who says ‘don’t force stupid people to be quiet.’ I want to know who the morons are.”

On the night before Silver’s announcement of Sterling’s lifetime ban, Cuban called Sterling’s comments “abhorrent.” However, he also said that forcing Sterling to sell the Clippers would be a “very slippery slope.”

Cuban pledged his full support of Silver’s ruling after the fact, but he had been guarded on his comments on the subject since then until appearing at the GrowCo convention Wednesday, when he reportedly said that he hates that he might have to be hypocritical with his vote on the the matter of Sterling.

The point Cuban attempted to make during his videotaped interview with Inc. magazine was the importance of helping people evolve from their prejudices and bigotries.

I’ll try to give them a chance to improve themselves, because I think that helping people improve their lives, helping people engage with people they may fear or may not understand, and helping people realize that while we all may have our prejudices and bigotries we have to learn that it’s an issue that we have to control, that it’s part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it, not just to kick the problem down the road,” Cuban said. “Because it does my company no good, it does my customers no good, it does society no good if my response to somebody and their racism and bigotry is to say, ‘It’s not right for you to be here. Go take your attitude somewhere else.’ ”https://mikebeckles.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
